The Eagles have been working out only about 1 hour and a half. Their workouts emphasize attention to detail.
The Birds are trying to get their youngsters prepared for a shot at competing with the veterans when they arrive on Monday night.
Andy and staff are short on players so they can't really workout very long. Surprisingly, they didn't have all of the guys who were injured a year ago, come in early. So they don't have enough numbers to go very long. I could see the way Tony Hunt and Nate Ilaoa were sucking wind that they are running everything out of them. These kids are going to be at a disadvantage because their legs won't be as fresh as the vets when they arrive.
As I had said the Birds have been spending their workout time stressing details to their young players. Tight end is one position where they're taking very close look at youngsters Brent Celek and Lee Vickers. The Eagles tight ends have been showing everybody why they need a healthy L.J. Smith. Both Celek and Vickers drop too many passes. They seem to be picking up the offense but they've got to do a better job of hanging on to the football. I know there's a lot going on in their minds but they've got to get better when it comes to catching the ball consistently. Celek is probably the better receiver and Vickers has the capability, because of his size, of being the better blocker. I emphasize capability because I haven't seen him block.
L.J. has a lot of pressure on him from a personal standpoint to comeback and show the Birds that he should have his contract extended. The injury and subsequent surgery put even more pressure on Smith because he's going to have to miss quite a bit of training camp.
Kevin Kolb looks good on one play, then he looks like a raw rookie on the next. He was having some trouble throwing the intermediate corner route in between the deep safety and the underneath linebacker. Any time Kevin lapses in his concentration it
