Andy Reid just put the Birds through a tough two and a half hour knock down drag out practice. They had numerous live drills and there were some serious blows delivered.
Sean Considine made it very clear today that he plans on keeping his starting job. He layed a lick on free agent receiver Michael Gasperson and the sound of it echoed throughout the Lehigh Valley. It happened on a deep pass route and Considine was pursuing from his deep middle safety spot. Gasperson was being covered by a cornerback and Sean took off when the ball was thrown. He arrived a bit late after the pass slipped through the hands of Gasperson. In a game he would have been flagged but it made an impression on everybody out there.
I like what I see out of C.J. Gaddis. I can see that Jim Johnson and staff are thinking that he can help them this year and I agree. Gaddis made a couple of tackles at the line of scrimmage, one on a pass play and the other on a running play, which were impressive. C.J. has great feet and size for a safety. I think he's doing an excellent job of picking up JJ's defensive system.
Andy Reid wasn't smiling when the Mexican defensive tackle beat his blocker and hit the arm of Kevin Kolb Reid made it a point to let the youngster know that he was going to tolerate him hitting the quarterback. Lopez has shown that he's not a bad player but were he to hits the arm of another quarterback he's going to be back to Mexico immediatelly.
There were a number of plays where all three linebackers were in on the tackle. That's a change. I think Chris Gocong is more comfortable versus the run than the pass and that's understandable. I talked about Takeo Spikes delivering some knockouts in an article last night. It almost happened today on a reverse. Spikes caught Correll Buckhalter on a reverse and he was trying to free himself from somebody who was holding his leg. Buck ducked at the last second because Spikes was about to severe his head from his body.
Jeremiah Trotter has had a good couple of days. He delivered some good shots versus the Birds inside rushing attempts. A number of times Trot was hitting and talking "smack" at the same time.
I will be updating this story throughout the afternoon.
