McNabb and Kolb Looking Sharp

With chants of "Dallas sucks!" in the background, both Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb are looking sharp in live drills this morning.

Donovan McNabb hooked up with Reggie Brown on a long crossing route in a mid-practice drill.   After rolling out to his right, the recovering starter threw a lazer to Brown who corralled the pass and turned up field after breaking a  C.J. Gaddis tackle.  That is a great sign in that it shows that McNabb, Marty Mornhinweg and Andy Reid all have confidence in the rehabilitated knee.  McNabb looks quick and is not showing any hitches in his movement, much to the delight of the Eagles fans in attendance today.

Later on, McNabb hooked up with Kevin Curtis on a long bomb down the left sideline.  Curtis did a great job first beating cornerback Dustin Fox and then adjusting to bring in a slightly underthrown pass.  McNabb currently continues to impress in 7 on 7 drills.  He looks like he is in great rhythm and has not missed a beat through his lengthy rehab.

Meanwhile, rookie Kevin Kolb has been putting on a nice show of his own this morning.  He is doing a great job of going through his progression, spreading the ball around to fellow young bucks Tony Hunt and Jeremy Bloom, who also looked good this morning.  Kolb led the offense on a nice drive in the mid-practice live drills.   He made quick reads and accurate throws – exactly what is needed in Andy Reid's West Coast offense.  It is evident that Kolb understands the offense and already has a decent grasp of when and where to make  the short throws.   The rookie looked solid in his intermediate passes as well, though just missing on a long bomb to  wide receiver Jermaine Jamison.

Kolb did pull the ball down and take off a couple times but he needs to put the ball away when he does so.  The Houston product needs to become acclimated to the speed of the players around him and realize that he can be caught quickly and stripped of the ball.

But the early practice has been very positive for the current and possibly future Eagles quarterbacks.

In other notes, Brian Westbrook broke a few long runs in early live drills and Jeremy Bloom had his slight frame put to the test as he took some solid hits.  Middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter had some good tackles but was beaten by tight end Brent Celek on a pass play.   Celek took advantage of the mild surprise of passing on a running down and got separation from the veteran linebacker.

We will we back with more as the morning practice comes to a conclusion.  Be sure to stick with us for the afternoon practice as well, as we give you the details here on GCobb.com.
