Injuries Test Eagles Depth

The bodies continued to fall at  Eagles training camp.  This morning backup guard Scott Young was carted off with a sprained knee.  Starting right tackle Jon Runyan left practice because of stiffness in his back.

In place of Young the Birds had Nick Cole working at right guard in order to make the line deeper.  The put Winston Justice at right tackle for Runyan.  Both of those backups were working at position that they don't normally play.  This could end of helping the Birds later in the season because it will make them deeper at those positions.  If you have guys who can play mulitple positions it makes you deeper at that position and gives you more options.

With Young in there the Birds get very little push out of him.  If I were an offensive line coach I would consider moving one of the big tackles inside for Andrews because they've got to get more push if they want to run the football.  I'd try big Pat McCoy at guard.

I don't know if Cole can cut it at guard.  His footwork wasn't good and it's an adjustment which will take him a while to make.  Justice on the other hand seemed to have no trouble making the adjustment to the right side. This versatility could get the kid on the field sooner.

Matt Schobel isn't as effective as L.J. when they ask him to split out wide and run a one on one route against a defensive back.  Schobel is too slow to really make the DB back up so they can run the comeback routes.  They've got to substitute somebody with more speed.

Victor Abiamiri shouldn't be playing  the Joker postion in nickel situations.  I know they were just working him on the third team but he doesn't have the speed of Kearse or Juqua Thomas to close on people.  The guy playing the Joker has to have blazing speed.

Tank Daniels should be utilized on nickel situations to go man to man on the TE.  This kid plays the TE better than any of the other linebackers.  He could help the team going man to man on the better TE in the league.
