Production Should Dictate Who Plays

At the end of the 2006 season, Juqua Thomas was the Eagles best and most consistent pass rusher.  I think he should be on the field on pass downs when Birds are looking for a pass rush.  Production should decide who plays.

Later for big names in the line up, the must start challenge guys to make plays.  If I were the Birds I would open up competition and let Juqua Thomas and Jevon Kearse battle for their playing time at the left end spot.  I know Kearse got the money and he has the big name but we don't need big names we need pressure on the QB.  They must alternate at that left end spot and along the entire defensive line to keep people fresh and develop some competition for playing time.

On the third play of the game, Panthers fullback Brad Hoover tried to cut Thomas on a roll out, but he avoided the block and pursued Jake Delhomme and forced him to throw the ball away.  Would Kearse have made the same play?  I dont' know but I know Juqua made it.  Later in the game, Thomas came off the left defensive side, beat his block and stripped Delhomme of the football and caused a turnover.  Would Kearse have made the play?  I don't know but I saw Thomas make it.  They should put some pressure on Kearse and everybody else on that D line by telling them that produciton will put you on the field.   I wouldn't make Juqua Thomas the starter over Kearse but I sure would have him on the field when it's 3rd and long.

You see Jim Johnson didn't have a problem starting Darren Howard over Trent Cole.  Why not consider doing the same thing on the other side?  The Eagles have no time for "Sacred Cows".  Either you produce or run the risk of having your playing time reduced.   This isn't a popularity contest and these guys are not running for office.  This is NFL football and production is the name of the game and ti's all that matters.
