Why do the same people who excuse all types of bad behavior in African-American communities nationwide get so up in arms by people like Michael Vick? Bad behavior is inexcusable regardless of how much money the perpetrator has in the bank.
I hear people, who think they’re doing African-Americans a service, coming up with alibis for the all the crime that goes on in places like Philadelphia, Camden and Chester. They blame it on poverty, racism, drugs and guns but not the people. People sit down and make a decision to do wrong things. I do care what any sociologist, politician, or musician has to say to the contrary but people, not things, decide to do good or bad things.

Rich Michael Vick and his poor buddies sat down and made a decision to get involved in criminal behavior. Vick has no excuse for being involved in a dogfighting ring. If he hadn’t made it out of the Tidewater ghetto to gain fame and fortune, he would still have no excuse for being involved in crime. Every week I go to the Youth Study Center in Philadelphia, which is a holding facility for youth who have been arrested. I counsel youngsters about making good decisions, choosing good friends and getting their education. I hear some of these kids give their excuses for why they had some drugs on them when they were caught. Most of these teenagers no longer look at getting arrested and going away to a detention facility, as an unusual and negative thing. Obeying your teacher in school and getting A’s are looked upon as being negative by these youngsters , whereas doing some time in jail is cool. It’s means you’re a “real brother”. Making up excuses for this type of behavior doesn’t help these youngsters, it hurts them.
I gave Vick the benefit of the doubt but his guilty plea saves the government from having to put on a trial and it also saves me from having to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Plus I don’t need to hear one more person on television say that they get nauseous when they hear what Vick and his codefendents did to the dogs. It was awful, but right here in this area I’ve seen on the news descriptions of babies and toddlers being raped, drowned, bludgeoned to death, burned to death, strangled and etc. This is on the news nearly every day, and I don’t hear people saying they’re repulsed by them describing what happen to these children. Yet people say they can’t take hearing about what Vick did to these dogs.

Is it any different from what’s on the tube every night any way. I turn the channel all the time when the news starts talking about these awful things that are done to children in this area. Maybe people have gotten callous to some of dispicable things that go on around here and for some reason, this crime has awoken their sensitivities.
