This is going to be a huge game for the Birds. The Eagles first teams will play the entire first half and maybe part of the second.
After you add in the fact that the starters will sit and watch the last game, you realize that this contest against the Steelers will be very important. The offense needs to show they can run the ball against a good defensive front. The Steelers play a 3-4 and like the Ravens like to blitz.
We haven’t seen Brian Dawkins all preseason so it’s very important that he show what he’s got. Dawk needs to come out strong and show that he can still play at a Pro Bowl level. Brian has had problems with his Achilles tendon, so there’s reason for concern, until he gets on the field and proves he can still do it.
We also haven’t seen much of Jevon Kearse. Kearse is coming off of knee surgery so I’m eager to see if he can give the Birds consistent QB pressure from the left side of the defense.
Or course everybody’s going to be checking out new starting middle linebacker Omar Gaither. The youngster will have his work cut out for him tonight when he tries to help the Birds stop that tough Pittsburgh running game. The defensive tackles will have to battle a great run-blcoking offensive line. Steelers All-Pro guard Alan Faneca will be blocking Mike Patterson so Mike had better bring his lunch bucket because it’s going to be a full night’s work.
