I can understand the reasoning behind the moves which the Eagles made but that doesn't mean all of them were correct. Going with Saverio Rocca is understandable but he holding and consistency are worth questioning.
I would have made the same decision if I were in their position. Rocca's leg is so big that I couldn't resist choosing him.
If I were coaching the Birds I would have asked Jevon Kearse to take a pay cut and I would have made it public. I don't see an urgency in Kearse about his football career. He surely has not outplayed Juqua Thomas. They've got to light a fire under him.
I expect the Eagles will sign Rashad Barksdale to the practice squad. He only played one year of college football at tiny Albany, so I think he's going to get better the longer he plays. Barksdale would be worth hanging onto. Free agent Nick Graham who made the team is definitely more polished than Barksdale.
I do think that Jeremy Bloom was hurt the last few games. He didn't have his acceleration in the last few games. Throughout the entire off season and training camp, he showed he had the speed to be a quality returner but aftter the first game he lost his jets. He might be able to get healthy and eventually make somebody's ballclub. He's just not ready for prime time yet.
The amazing thing about Nate Ilaoa is that he's better than Reno Mahe who played for the Birds a number of years.
Fifth round draft pick C.J. Gaddis didn't seem to have a sense of urgency about making the football team. The kid seemed to be in cruise control like he already had a spot on the team. There's no question that Marcus Paschal outplayed for that fourth safety spot.
In somewhat of an upset, the Eagles cut Tank Daniels and held onto free agent Akeem Jordan. Jordan is about big as Matt McCoy but he's shown he can make plays. Daniels who was new to linebacking because he played safety in college, looked like he was lost when he played the outside linebacker position. Despite that, somebody who is willing to wait a little longer will have a much bigger player with a bigger upside than Jordan. Daniels weighs almost 250 and stands 6'4". There's no way I would have hung onto two midgest as outside linebacker. I don't how you could ever play the little guys Jordan and McCoy.
Defensive end Marques Murrell can play for somebody in the NFL. He's got the burst which you need to run down quarterbacks. Murrell will have trouble against the run because of how small he is.
Dedrick Roper should be able to find himself a job at the pro level.
Jeremy Clark showed quite a bit of promise at defensive tackle but he's not good enough to make this roster but he can play on the NFL level. Clark needs to spend more time in the weight room and get stronger.
I also though Bill Sampy can play for somebody but he was prevented from showing his stuff this training camp because of an injury. The kid missed the entire camp.
Speaking of cuts, the Saints cut former Eagles Dhani Jones, the Vikings cut former Eagles wide receiver Billy McMullen and the 49ers signed Sam Rayburn.
