You guys are without a doubt the most impassioned fans in the NFL. Here's a sampling of the e-mails I have received over the hours since the Eagles gave away the first game of the year.
From Dan,
To G. Cobb,
I hate to say this after only one game, but there were so many things wrong that maybe it is time to think about putting the Andy Reid era to rest. The Special teams were a fiasco, the play calling in the Red Zone was terrible ( one has to wonder why they drafted the RB from Penn State if they aren't going to use him ), why put a TE who is not healthy and not giving you anything out there to play. Maybe the players have tuned out the coaching staff. I believe they will beat Washington, but if I'm Jeff Lourie I've got to be thinking to next year…but of course I'm not so Andy is probably safe until he decides to retire.
From Chris,
To G.,
Who should have fielded that last punt?
Answer: Nobody
The game was going to OT. Lewis muffed a punt, and dove for another in a crowd. The coaching staff should have told any player not to get within 20 yards of the ball. The Eagles had 1 TO and no time left. They were not going to move the ball.
From Bucmell,
To Garry Cobb,
When even the casual fan, not even the 'die hard, bleed Eagles green' fans absolutely believe they can out-coach, the Head coach
( and certainly yesterday they could have EASILY… that's a real problem!!!
Without losing credibility for making such a 'rash' statement…
Since the Eagles lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional championship playoffs several years ago,
I have been telling EVERYONE who'll listen that,
Andy Reid needs to give up the play calling!
I humbly submit that everyone who knows how football is suppossed to be played,
knows that the Philadelphia should have been to 3 superbowls,
and probably have won at least one of those chances under Reids tenure.
The redeeming fact that Reid has had the supporting front office,
coaching staff & player personnel to get him that level of success,
is the ONLY reason I'm not petitioning for him not to be fired.
But he is one of the WORST 'game day' coaches in the history of the Eagles franchise…
His teams win 'INSPITE' of his INEPT game day coaching.
(Eagles linemen, & Hall of Fame writers have said & written about this for YEARS now!)
I swore I saw Rich Kotite/Charlie Manual walking the Eagles sidelines yesterday!
How much more embarrassment do we have to endure???
I counted 15 directly attributal errors to his decision making yesterday. Leave Andy as the Head Coach,
and take the head phones, and play book away from him on EVERY remaing game day for the rest of his tenure in Philadelphia!
His aggrgance is continually wasting precious years of our beloved players lives, disemboweling the guts of the Eagles faithful fans,
and squandering the history making of a Franchise,
already devoid of Superbowl victories!!! I know we aren't another NFL team like the Colts, or Pat's… But if we distrubte the ball on offense like Indy does.
(Inside run(B.W.), out pass left(H.B), off tackle run left(B.W.), slant pass right(R.B.), tight end dump(L.J.S.), off tackle run right(C.B.),play action pass(K.C.)= TD!
next series do the same plays to the opposite(s) side of the field, add in a designed screen,
to neutralize the blitz on a 3rd and short…
Also add in the mix of(B.C.) Rookie TE, (T.H.) Rookie RB, and (J.A.) 2nd year W.R.~ he deserves more touches!)
Fake Head Coach Andy the GM & Tom Heckert be the Assistant GM, Let anyone else Coach the offense on Gameday, even me!!!
I Promise the Eagles will never be unprepaired/ embarressed like that again on national TV!
It's not rocket science…It's only football, Andy Reid!!!
BTW~Did anyone other than me notice that 'we' had time-out management issues 'AGAIN' yesterday
…without Morningwheg/Garcia running the playbook, pitiful!
From DJ Absoluut,
To G. Cobb,
"Toned down out of respect for you and your great website!"
GREEN BAY – You've gotta be kidding me!!!! When does the bullcrap with this freakin team end? Why am I dedicated to a dumb ass football team that consistently beats itself? Today's game shows just why the Philadelphia Eagles will never, ever be an NFL champion. You got so much "talent" on this team and it can't jell on a consistent basis. I'm looking at teams like the Colts, the Patriots, and the Steelers go into their games that they are supposed to win, handle these subpar teams the way a champion handles their business, and roll on to the next weekend's contest. Just straight up business-like. Seeing the Eagles play down to another team's level, struggle, and then lose in the freakin end seems to be what they are all about. McNabb and Reid couldn't win a championship together if their damn lives depended on it. Everybody always keeps talkin about how McNabb is this HOF QB who was on a record-setting pace last season before he got injured; blah, blah, blah. Am I the only one that remembers how he would screw up at the most inopportune moments, like throwing the ball into the field of play with the clock running down instead of throwing it away when we desperately needed a score? Or taking a huge sack that knocked us out of FG position? Or squandering precious amounts of time before the end of the half? I could go on and on for this crap happens on a consistent basis. Anyway, here is my list of stupid asses on the Eagles after the Game 1 loss to the Packers…
McNABB-The guy is salty. How many times did one of his "rocket" passes get batted down? And when does common sense come into play with this guy? He should be on Peyton Manning's level by now, with reading defenses, calling audibles, and dissecting a teams defense so bad that they are playing on their heels all game. For example, why on a 3rd and 7 do you throw the ball four yards to "Stop, drop, and roll" LJ Smith? This guy has rarely ever run for a first down in his life. Probably 95% of his 1st down catches have been caught when he was well past the first down marker. So, why does McNabb insist on checking down to this idiot on a consistent basis? LJ Smith should be taken out of all 3rd down packages-immediately! But even if he is in the game, McNabb needs to have the smarts to abandon a dumb-ass playcall (which happens a lot) and let his instincts take over. Unfortunately, he's not like that because of a couple of factors. First of all, he's so freakin scared of Andy Reid that he'll call whatever play AR wants him too, even if the defense is reading it and they know it's coming. Also, this uber-sensitive dip so badly wants to be called a "pocket-passer" that he'll abandon his flight instincts all together and make himself one-dimensional! Why? If he would only realize that if he used all of what he has he could literally take over the league. If I have to keep watching Donovan "HOF" McNabb screw up at crucial times every 3 games until he has a stellar game I think I'm gonna kill myself! Donovan McNabb has the ability to win a freakin NFL game by himself; I've seen him do it, and with average players in horrible conditions (at Green Bay a couple of years ago). Why he won't do it is beyond me! It's what separates the champions from the regular Joes. For example, in a correlation to basketball, if Peyton Manning is like Tim Duncan, then Donovan McNabb is like Tracy McGrady. While Manning and Duncan get the wins, the trophies, and make their teammates around them better, all McNabb and McGrady got are freakin stats and star power. That crap don't win no championships, and it never will. You could look at Peyton Manning and you knew that he was gonna win a championship; it wasn't a question of "if", it was a question of "when". He's been the best player in the league for years; everyone knew that. It was just surprising when he kept losing to the Patriots. But now he popped that cherry, what's the limit for him now? The sky, that's what! Games between Manning vs. McNabb should be instant classics by now, with both teams lighting up the scoreboard, but it won't ever be cause McNabb is not on that consistent level. At least on a rare "bad" day for Manning, he'll put up 200 yards in the air and produce at least one TD pass and his team will always be in the game. P. Manning is a great field general; the best I've ever seen. McNabb should seriously consider renaming his Super 5 clothing line to Stupid 5. That would make much more sense.
COACHING STAFF-Wow, what can I say about the awesome Philadelphia Eagles coaching staff? Let me think…….. umm, all these guys need fired!!! They should be somewhere selling cheap ass auto insurance. It's bad enough when you keep running the same plays over and over and over again, but it's really bad when the freakin offense goes numb down in the red zone when it actually does manage to sustain a drive. Where is the attack mentality? On the first red zone drive the Birdz were inside the freakin 10 yard line and that ball didn't sniff the goal line – at all. To do all that hard work to get down there for a quick three and out exit and settle for a FG is some straight-up bullcrap. Can't you at least dial up one damn play where McNabb can throw it into the end zone? At least give it one freakin shot! You mean to tell me that with all these clipboard-having SOB's no one has the balls to say, "let's try for the end zone?" Those dopes are too busy looking at playsheets and not coaching the game. Everyone has their freakin head into a playsheet. No one is watching what the hell is going on out there on that field and exploiting mismatches and hitting weak spots in the defense. There are so many options at their disposal that it's freakin impossible for an opposing team to cover them all. Is everyone so scared of that damn coach that they're afraid of speaking their mind? Where is the common sense that tells you, "hey, let's go for a score"? Everyone needs to pull their heads out of their collective asses and understand that you're playing and coaching for the pride of an entire city, not for one stupid fat-ass Mormon whose job is so secure that he don't give a shit. I came to this game figuring that the defense was questionable, but the offense is atrocious!! What the hell were those guys doing all season, because it sure as hell wasn't evaluating the players on the roster! At least the defense played respectable; the offense played horribly. Is this what a West Coast offense is supposed to be? What I remember about a true West Coast offense was seeing the 49ers in the 1980's going up and down the field at will, getting first downs, eating up the clock, and coming out of games with double-digit wins. If this is supposed to be a variation of that, then I think they should scrap this bullcrap cause either the players don't fit the profile or somewhere along the line a few basics were missed. For instance, seeing McNabb trying to force the ball to Reggie Brown in the 4th quarter was a joke. If you haven't utilized his dumb-ass by then, why do it at all? Just so you can get a dude his catches so he can have some stats? Forget dat; there's more pressing issues, like driving the ball down the field on an "average" defense and getting some points on the board. If you want to utilize someone, utilize Brent Celek. This guy was a draft steal for us; a jewel in the rough, and he wasn't even thrown to! You gotta be kidding me! The upswing of Brent Celek is tremendous! A real coaching staff would see that, but instead everyone is so freakin scared of AR to make an input. So until then, I guess we'll be forced to watch the offense move 12 yards backwards when the defense gives them a turnover in prime field territory. How the hell is this team gonna win when it keeps beating itself? It's not enough for us to have to play against an NFL team, the refs, the one-sided commentators, and the hostile fans, but now we got to play against certain members of your own team doing stupid stuff at inopportune times (Trent Cole crotch kick, McDougle flag kick, special teams screw-ups, 15 yard personal foul penalties, questionable pass attempts, etc., ). Who is the blame for so many players doing that crap at the wrong times? Where is the freakin discipline on this team? Why aren't these chumps being held accountable? Where is R. Lee Ermey when you need him? Is he behind the scenes in the RCA Dome, because that is a team that's got their act together. It's bad enough to see AR's sons screwing up in real life, but now the players on this team too? I feel bad for Celek; at least he has some of his intelligence; at least until it starts to dwindle from the force-fed horse manure that AR delivers to this team and the city. He'll be a dumb scared-ass puppet by the end of the season as well.
LJ SMITH-It's official; LJ Smith has patented the amazing stop drop and roll ability that his predecessor Chad Lewis once owned! The difference is that Chad Lewis did it "after" he was past the first down marker. This guy is a true dip in the purest form of the word. While his blocking has gotten somewhat better, his YAC's seem to be on a steep downward spiral. He has maybe one or two good games a year, and even when he does do something good he'll manage to fuck it up by doing something stupid on the next play, like draw a penalty or fumble the freakin ball. And please don't ask him to tackle anybody; anyone who saw that first Dallas game last year can attest to that!!! You'd think his big ass frame would be able to run over defenders, but this guy gets wrapped up efficiently by 180 lb cornerbacks and tripped up by himself. If this doofus could actually stay on his feet long enough to make a run I think Florida would be in for a very cold and icy summer. Message to LJ – Hey LJ, do you think that you could actually run your routes a little bit past the first down marker, cause Lord knows that if we were strapped with a 3rd and 2, you would sure enough run a one yard route, and McNabb would sure enough throw it to you. LJ and McNabb should win an award for being 2 of the 5 dumbest NFL players.
SPECIAL TEAMS-The receivers on this unit are freakin jokes. I know it's only the first game and all that, but you gotta be kidding me. They coulda put me back there and I could've done that same thing, and for a lot less money! We gift-wrapped a win for the lowly Green Bay Packers when we had Greg Lewis and JR Reed back there fielding kicks and punts. Greg Lewis is not, and I repeat not, a big time player on the center stage. He's the type of player that makes an impact when he comes in during the middle of a close game and makes an important catch out of nowhere. Putting Greg Lewis on the center stage for punt return duty is a huge mistake, and I'm sure everyone knows that now. Greg Lewis should be running down with the punt-coverage units trying to make a tackle or set up a block. If you gotta keep him on this team, put him in a position where he's rarely seen or heard from, cause this guy is too much of a wuss to be a prime-time player. That 1 receiver thing a couple of years ago can attest to that. And what the hell is up with JR Reed? Now I know why all those other teams kept cutting his ass. This guy is wasted garbage. He had a good season, then jacked it up with stupidity in the off-season trying to jump over a fence. Give me a freakin break. Now he's back for his second go-round, and of all teams, the Eagles had to take a second chance on him. This guy is much slower, much more stupid, and much less of a football player than he was before. Why is he on this team? I never though I would say this; but Reno Mahe is better than he is, and Reno sucks. The new ST coach looks like he don't know what the hell he's doing, and he's too much of a punk to get into those guys face. ST coaches need to be the most fiery dudes on the field, because they get "involved" with their players. Every hit, every run, every block; a true ST coach can feel that. That's why Harbaugh was so good with minimal talent. He got the most out of his special-teamers. He put guys in there to return kicks not because they supposedly had breakaway speed, but because they were sure handed and didn't make dumb mistakes. But for this guy to let those two clowns in there speaks volumes for his ability to coach. And before I forget, after booming big punts all pre-season, Sav Rocca's punting was very average to say the least. Johnson could've done that shit, and he's a lot younger. Hopefully it's first game jitters, but it begs the question; does Koy Detmer know how to punt? And why is it that when teams line up for FG's, 99% of Eagles fans know that it won't be thoroughly contested? I mean it's bad enough when you let up a game-winning 62 yard FG against Tampa Bay last year, but you got kickers on other teams hitting 50 yard FG's like they're going out of style. Where's the icing, the yelling, the jittery stutter stepping to throw the other special teams off balance? Hell, where is the real attempt to block the freakin kick? Does the Eagles coaching staff teach that stuff anymore, or are the players supposed to stand out there and jump in the air for the effect? Get the freak out of here!!!!
JEVON KEARSE-I don't know about the rest of the Birdz fans out there, but I am seriously getting sick and tired of the Freak hobbling off to the sideline after every other play. This guy gets hurt more than a lovesick teenage girl! It's not enough that he hasn't lived up to his potential or his contract money, but when this guy actually starts over Juqua Thomas (who happens to be much better) and can rarely contribute on the football field, it reeks of bull. The only thing Jevon Kearse has going for himself is his name and his wonderful rookie season with the Titans. Now the guy is a creampuff who can't make it through one freakin game without howling and wincing in pain. In addition to coming into training camp skinny as hell, the guy has never developed any DE moves other than an outside pass rush and a weak ass bull charge. Sometimes I get scared seeing him sign autographs because I wonder if he'll break his index finger when he picks up the sharpee. He should've got cut this year, not Trotter; nuff said.
OFFENSIVE LINE- Wow; if anybody could make the Green Bay defensive line look like the Steel Curtain, it was our offensive line today! Was it me or did everyone on the offensive line suck today? I thought the Birdz had one of the better offensive lines in the league? I've seen these guys get downright nasty with defenders and jack them up all sorts of ways, but today, these chumps had serious issues. Even my man Shawn Andrews, who is my favorite player, was treated like a rookie today! (How is that heel, Shawn?) It seemed like the method of operation all day; we'd get a couple of yards and then someone on the offensive line would get a penalty and throw us back. How in the hell can they compete against the rest of the NFL when those guys continually screw yourselves by not giving McNabb enough time to throw or giving him a passing lane? And the blocking for Westbrook seemed to get worse as the game went on. In the beginning of the game the guys were making holes, then towards the end of the game Westy couldn't run anywhere. I thought offensive linemen got meaner, tougher, and stronger as the game went on? Let me let the OL in on a little secret – The Eagles OL guys are blocking for someone who could possibly be the greatest halfback in the history of the National Football League. Westbrook has limitless potential, but not if the front five can't block and create holes to save their asses. It should be an honor to block for this man, for he has the ability to go the distance every time he touches the ball. Not too many running backs around the league can say that. This line has been together for like what; 5 years so far? There's no excuse; play like you got some freakin balls and if you have to injure fools to make sure Westy gets his yards and his scores, then freakin do it!
DEFENSIVE LINE- How many times did I see that shifty tree stump Brett Favre make some lucky-duck plays? Too many to count. Even though the D-Line played a respectable game, it was not enough. So many times, huge fast athletic Eagles defensive linemen whiffed on a sack of the "human joystick machine" Brett Favre. What good is the penetration do if you can't finish the play? This guy is a 160 year old football player who throws footballs up for grabs on a regular basis and for some odd reason; everyone had trouble getting to him. Now because of the media lovefest of Brett Favre, now everyone who watches the NFL has to go through some huge media-frenzy Brett Favre slob-knobbing for the next couple of weeks. Thanks a freakin lot, guys. Now whenever you see a clip of "Good Ole 4" you can rest assured that it will be that one play where he magically escaped three Eagles defenders, underhanded the ball to his RB, who happened to run 20-25 yards down the field for the first down. And trust me, they'll play that clip ALL DAMN YEAR, with captions that read "The Favre Magic is Back" and "Green Bay on the Road to the Super Bowl" And even worse than that, you got this old fart on the verge of retirement who is probably questioning the fact that he should retire. Hell, after a game like this, he should play another 3 or 4 more years, huh? I wonder where I've heard that one before….
All in all, the Packers didn't beat the Eagles today, the Eagles beat the Eagles today, like the Eagles tend to beat the Eagles every now and then. Is this supposed to be the freakin gold standard, cause if it is, I want to melt mine down and use it for something worthwhile. Three things will be certain after this game – even with all the bullshit that happened today I'll still be a fan (Lord knows why), the Eagles will still be inconsistent with McNabb and Reid at the helm, and the Packers will be uber-confident for a couple of weeks, at least until Sept 23, when the Chargers come to Lambeau. I would like all of the Eagles players, staff, and coaches to be sure to take some notes on that game. The Chargers will show you how a real Super Bowl caliber team will kick a mediocre team's ass on their own field in front of their own fans, cause the fuckin Philadelphia Eagles couldn't do it!
Thanks guys. Keep up the good work. – Abs
