Comments From GCobb.com Readers

The pain from Sunday still hasn't subsided.  The play calling by Andy and Marty, along with Bill Belichick and the Patriots cheating are major points of discussion for GCobb.com readers.

From Evans,

To G.,
I have been an Eagles fan for a very long time. My father who has passed on took me to games at Franklin Field. In my opinion, under the current regime, we will never win a super bowl. The gold standard that Lurie refers to is fools gold. The statistics and accomplishments that Baner refers to are double talk for lack of a Super Bowl Win.  How many years is Andy Reid going to say he needs to do a better job without any visible signs that he learns from his mistakes. Both offensive tackles were not Andy Reid draft choices. Hank Fraley who got his butt beat in the super bowl
was around much too long.

Todd Pinkston, the coward who cramped up in the super bowl was kept too long. James Thrash, Billy McMullen, and especially
Freddie Mitchel, the slowest receiver ever in the FL(Andy said they wanted him as a possession receiver?) Our current tight end LJ seems to be sub-par along with Reggie Brown who couldn,t get is feet out of the turf in Green Bay.We haven't had a return man since Timmy Brown.Reed came in as a quaterback coach. How much coaching Did Brett actually Need as he has good instincts.

He hasn't taught D McNabb how to sell a fake, how to manage the clock, how to look off DB's,how and when to throw the ball away. The linebackers Andy rought in, Simeno, Kirkland, and Bow Tie man were astes. The defensive linemen Including Simon who had no stamina,Walker who stunk for years, and Thomas who was a walk on only show how poor the Eagles are at overall talent evaluation or how they think that they are so much more superior n judgement. This nonsense must stop. Eagles fans everwhere deserve better. Andy MUST REALIZE THAT HE IS NOT DOING A BETTER JOB! It's the SOS

Evans,

I understand your frustration.

From Ben Spinner,

G. Cobb,
I was thinking the same kind of stuff when I was watching the game.  I just thought the whole offensive game plan/play calling REAKED of Andy Reid.  My brother kept saying that Morningweg calls the plays, but I knew better.  At least the play calling didn't show that.  He's handed over play calling duties so why did he attempt to put his influence back onto the offensive side of the ball?  Just seems to me like Andy just isn't with it anymore and hasn't been with it for a long time dating back to last year and maybe even before.  Thats not saying he doesn't prepare these guys well….which I think he does better than anyone, but on gameday, I wish Andy would just stay home.  Andy/Marty did not give his players a chance to perform with the selection of plays they made.

Ben,

Andy didn't have one of his better games and the offensive players didn't play well either.

From David,

Garry,

Great article.  I couldn't agree more.  The one play that stands out in my mind is in the 4th quarter with 12:54 remaining.  The Eagles have the ball at the Packers' 46 with a 3rd and 1.  Like you wrote in your article, the Eagles should be able to pick up this one yard even if the Packers are expecting a simple run up the middle (even if they stole the Eagles play calls!) McNabb dropped back to throw and was sacked. I just think it's an absolute joke that they don't run the ball here.
What were they thinking?  Is there any reasonable explanation for not being conservative and getting the first down.  Unless, you're playing 4 down territory and would have gone for it with 4th and 1. Given the Packers offense on Sunday, I would have probably gone for it on 4th and 1 from the Packers 46. But, the sack makes that hard to do.
thanks,

David,

I don't blame it all on Andy because the "O" line didn't control the line of scrimmage.

From Steve,

G,  You know the question all Eagle fans are asking, did this happen at the Super Bowl (the Eagles were in) as well?  I don't like excuses but I think about this as well as so many Tampa Bay Bucs who were found to be on steroids the year that they won the super bowl. It makes you wonder if the Eagles did not get cheated twice. (It makes me especially upset because Donavan probably would have a Super Bowl ring by now?

Have a great day. (very interested in your thoughts on this)

Steve,

The Pats have been great adjusters for years.  Go back and see how many times they played better in the second half than they did in the first.  I question everything the Pats have done over the years.  New England has won so many close games.

From Mark,

Gary,

McNabb was awful the first 6 games of 2003 and then got into a groove. They were losing Giants game 9-6 until BWest broke the punt all the way. He will go ok. The problem, though, is that the D is  not as good as  2003. Still, that D not great in 2003.  They did not have Trotter that year and gave up a lot of yards rushing. Cory Simon appeared to start season out of shape.  Gaither, Gocong, and Bunckley will only get better as thr as the season progresses.

I still expect Eagles to go on a roll. McNabb could not buy any time. If he buys any time at all, Curtis gets open. Drop off from Stallworth to Curtis not that great. Garcia was able to buy time and so will Mcnabb, as season progresses.

If he does get hurt again, time to go with Kolb. Its over. But I hope not.

Have to admit Reid not putting in Westbrook makes me wonder if home issues affecting him.

p.s. thanks for getting back to me about Pozluzny

From anthony,

G,

Tom Brady can hardly be considered a credible voice.  He had all to gain by cheating.

The sad fact is that every game that the Patriots have played under Belichek are to be viewed with suspicion.  Also, is Brady as good as we thought.  If this cheating did not gain them much then why do it … we know the answer.  The organization should be ashamed.  My punishment.  Pay back 4 – 5 times the damage …
Belichek 3 year suspension
NE Patriots 3 years without draft
Remember this is not the first time and all were warned going into this year.  Do something that really makes the behavior change.
