GCobb.com readers hear and see the same double standard in this Patriot-gate scandal. They see the easy treatment by Roger Goodell and they hear the hosts and callers going easy on Belichick.
From Vishal,
Gary, I don't always agree with everything you write, but I agree with you on this. A $500K fine, the loss of their 1st round pick if they make the playoffs, and the loss of their #2 and #3 if they do not? What a joke of a penalty. Either make it a legitamate penalty- suspend the coach, forfeit all the superbowls, or let it go altogether. He should either be treated like the Olympic Committee would treat to a cheating athlete and strip him of his gold, or they should just let it go and condone the behavior. There is no middle ground. Bellechick had been warned so the NFL knew he was doing this but they didn't have proof. around the league his ex coaches such as Tampa Bay DB coach knew that he was doing this. It was out there, and it seems that almost everyone knew why he was winning Superbowls with mediocre receivers and a quaterback who came from out of no where except the fans. The NFL dropped the ball on this punishment. It was nothing to deter future video taping of signals. It was like giving a bank robber whole stolen thousands a $20 fine. Either take all the money he stole away or let him walk. Don't give me this lip service about a loss of a "conditional" pick and $500K. This wasn't done to punish. It's window dressing to make it appear that Goodall did something serious when in fact he hasn't done enough to deter future acts so why bother at all
Vishal,
The truth is the truth.
Marlon McCord,
THANK YOU FOR BEING THE ONE WRITER WITH THE HEART TO WRITE THE TRUTH ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON. I loved this article you wrote because it is so true. They kill young black kids in college for accepting a couple dollars from rich white men who want there services. But everyone on the radio and t.v. are saying the patriot act is overblown. Thank you for pointing out the hypocrisy.
From Matt Higgins,
I couldn't agree you more with your insightful comments about the NFL's "punishment" of the Patriots and Coach Belichik. I feel this was a good starting point, but Belichick should have been suspended sans pay for at least four games. That would have been a fair punishment for Belichcik. What's good for the players is also good for the coaches in my opinion.
I'm not certain how effective the Patriots videotaping of their opponents defensive signals was in affecting a games outcome, but it makes we wonder – were the Patriots rally that good, or were they just really good at cheating.
Keep up the website – you do a great job in covering the Eagles.
Go Eagles!
Thanks Matt
From Tony from DC,
G,
It is such a travesty about the lenient fine on Bill Bellicheck, the guy is a cheater and all he gets is a fine. Roger Goodell has lost all credibility what a hypocrite. Roger is soft.
Did you like the pictures that I sent you. Do you have any plans to come down to DC soon, we like you to come meet the DC Eagles fans. The eagles bar in Georgetown is getting so crowded that the owner opened up a new bar just for eagles fans down the street from the Rhino called the Sign Of the whale. We are great fans.
Tony,
You hit it on the head
anthony,
Money is not a punishment to Belichek and the team. They should have lost all draft picks and Belichek should have lost what he craves "coaching" for the remainder of the year. The punishment is extremely light and the players should be upset with the commisioner.
Anthony,
You got it right.
