The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have re-signed S/KR J.R. Reed and released OT Pat McCoy. The team also signed OT Jonathan Palmer to the practice squad and released TE Lee Vickers from that group.
Reed, a fourth-round draft choice of the club in 2004, played in the Eagles season-opening game at Green Bay before being released two days later. During an impressive rookie season as the club's primary kickoff returner, Reed averaged 23.1 yards on 33 returns. A freak accident during the 2005 offseason, however, left Reed with nerve damage which affected movement in his lower leg and foot and forced him to miss the entire 2005 campaign.
He returned to action with the Eagles during the 2006 preseason, but was released on September 3, 2006. Reed went on to see action in 6 games with the St. Louis Rams later that year. He also spent time with Atlanta in 2006 and with the Giants this summer.
Palmer was originally signed as a rookie free agent by the Eagles in 2007 and was released as part of the team’s final roster cutdown on September 1.
