You may not have noticed, but I skipped my post-game thoughts on the Eagles/Giants game this week. It was so bad, that I just couldn’t figure out what on Earth I would add to the discussion.
12 sacks, what else is there to say? I actually went to the game and, yes, it did put a dark cloud on the Phils’ division title. So, here are some random thoughts:
-Well, at least we now know that Donovan McNabb is durable.
-Reggie Brown continues to Stink. It. Up. I’ve said for a long time now that he doesn’t catch McNabb’s ball very well, but has it come to this? Does McNabb have this little confidence in him?
-With all the talk of McNabb needing to step up his play (and there certainly is some truth to that), does he have any receiver other than Westbrook that he trusts that he can go to? I think not. He’s played with Kevin Curtis for about three minutes. It appears he doesn’t have faith in Brown. He doesn’t have a healthy LJ. It can’t be fun to be McNabb right now.
-I knew there was some reason I couldn’t get excited about the Phillies when they won the division. Something was holding me back. And here is why. Right here. This nonsense. Where are the bats? Not that the pitching should be doing any bragging either. With the exception of a few players, the Phillies are playing like the race is over.
-How messed up is fantasy football this year? LT has been just ok, not what you expect from the first overall pick. Larry Johnson? Stinks. Shawn Alexander looks like he’s running on a beach. Frank Gore has been bad. Stephen Jackson has been worse. For what it’s worth, my fantasy advice is not to panic too bad just yet. Don’t unload your whole roster, let’s see how this thing plays out. And if you take my advice, that means you are taking the advice of someone who is 0-4 in three of his five leagues.
-I’m lucky enough to be on the committee for the annual Joe Namath March of Dimes golf event, and it just took place at Bethpage on Tuesday. It’s getting bigger and bigger and if you are interested in getting involved with a foursome for next year, email me. Here are some highlights:
-This may sound childish, but the best part for me was the Nintendo Wii competition. You could do the golf challenge and have a chance to win a Wii, but that’s not what I thought was cool. It was when Darryl Strawberry walked in the room. They loaded up the baseball HR derby for him and I got to stand next to him while he played baseball on the Wii. Pretty neat.
-I asked one former Eagle (and there were quite a few considering it’s a Jets-heavy event) that was at the event if he thought the Eagles struggles had anything to do with Andy Reid’s family troubles. He shook his head in a deliberate manner and said, “Micah, absolutely not. It’s got nothing to do with it.” Just another opinion to throw in the mix.
-Rich Kotite doesn’t have any answers for the Eagles struggles either. Then again, he probably just had no interest in talking to me. Can’t blame him for that one.
-I told Brian Mitchell that I’m going to make my case for him to make the Hall of Fame. I’m sure that made his day, right? I understand that there is one true kicker in the Hall of Fame and that’s Jan Stenerud. I understand that “specialists” such as kickers, punters and returners are ignored. But how can you ignore 23,330 yards from scrimmage? That’s second in NFL history behind Jerry Rice, who wasn’t a bad player in his own right.
-Just in case anyone was wondering, Kevin Sorbo, who starred on “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” is a big Vikings fan. He knows his stuff.
