Sunday’s game between the Jets and the Eagles will be a battle between two struggling quarterbacks. One is struggling because he doesn’t have a running game and has been letting the ball go too quickly.
The other is struggling because he holds onto the ball too long, but he does have a running game. Donovan McNabb and Chad Pennington are both in a position where their teams are struggling and their successors are in place.
Kevin Kolb was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of this past April’s draft to replace McNabb, and Kellen Clemens was draft last year in the second round to replace Pennington. These starting quarterbacks are on the hot seat and in need of big games. The key with both of these guys will be the success of their running games. The question for McNabb will concern Andy Reid’s willingness to run the football. The question for Pennington will concern running back Thomas Jones’ ability to be successful running the football.
