The defensive game plan for the Eagles is very simple, control Minnesota Vikings rookie phenom Adrian Peterson and don't let him take over the game. Hopefully they will get some help from Vikings head coach Brad Childress who seems to be the only one who can stop this kid.
For some strange reason, the Vikings cut this amazing talent out of their offense last Sunday, by handing him the ball only 12 times and throwing to him only once in their battle against the Cowboys. This was only a week after the kid had a record breaking performance against the Bears. Peterson is an amazing combination of explosive blasts, blazing speed and tremendous power. He has great vision and does a great job of putting pressure on a run defense. The Eagles must do a great of tackling in the open field against this youngster or he will decimate their defense.
The defensive tackles must get penetration and not allow the Vikings offensive linemen to get to the second level on the linebackers. Peterson can make something out of nothing with the linebackers unblocked, but if the big Minnesota line is able to get to the backers, the former Oklahoma star will have a field day.
Thankfully the Vikings pass offense is anemic with young quarterback Tavares Jackson lacking the passing skills to mount much of a threat. Safeties Quintin Mikell and Sean Considine will have be solid tacklers when the move up near the line of scrimmage to help stop the run. Considine has to stop coming to a stop when he approaches a ball carrier. He must run through the ball carrier and wrap him up. The cornerbacks must also be ready to help keep Peterson in check. It will have to be a team effort to control him.
