Fans Want To Hang Onto McNabb

From Barb, I agreed wholeheartly with your column on Donovan. It makes me so mad that the organization has had great patience with other injured players, sometimes for several years before they can get back to form, like Buckholder for instance.

Donovan has given so much to the fans and this team without quality receivers, tight-ends, except for T.O.  Everyone who wants Donovan out of here is in for a world of heartache.  He will do exactly as you said, he will go somewhere else and be spectacular next year and we will be "stuck" with Kolb.  Besides his great confidence in himself, I don't see anything that great about him.  He sure didn't look too good on those couple of series that they put him in on.  Do you think that money is playing a part in this decision?  I guess Kolb will come much cheaper that Donovan.  I guess what I want to ask you G is if you think that Reid agrees with management about Kolb ?  Rumor has it that if we had waited Kolb would have still been around in the draft for a few more rounds, that should tell them with the quarterback crisis the NFL has had the past two or three years no one else seemed very excited about him.

From Steve, As I always say, G. I Love your column. I hope sooo much that you are wrong about the Eagles desire to trade McNabb. You know & i know that that would be a BIG mistake. You know next year that he will be healthy again. The thing that really bothers me is they have given this guy absolutely nothing to work with . When they do they only keep the player for one year.
The thing that I do like about the Patriots, they don't "try" to win te super bowl, they act like something is wrong if they don't win it. That includes being smart enough to realise that no matter how good you"system" is, you can't send some one's grandma out there to execute it. you need Real players.
       Yours truly,

From Tony, Hi G, After a tough loss, I am still an eagles fan. I was watching the replay of the game other night, what I saw was the Eagles beating themselves too many dropped passes, missed opportunities in the red zone, penalties, bad calls and suspect play calling at the end of the game.

From my observations from the season so far the positives that i have seen so far is that the Eagles haven't been blown out in any game, the defense is good, and we are a few plays away from being 4-2. I think this team can still win, but they have to beat Minnesota, and stop making the fundamental mistakes, score in the red zone everything else will take care of it self.

I still believe in the Eagles, stranger things have happened in the NFL. So At this point we have to fight through the adversity. Thanks,

From Dean, Let me start by saying I am as frustrated and angry with this team as anyone. However throwing out the baby with the bathwater is not the way to go here.Lets be honest if you get rid of Andy there is no guarantee Cowher,Pete Carroll,or Gruden is going to come here. There is also no guarantee that the time it will take to install there players and systems is going to be an easy one or produce results right away.
As far Donovan…have you looked at the slop that is playing quarterback in the NFL?? Seriously,McNabb is waay better that what is out there and Kolb is an unknown quantity.I understand some folks never liked Reid or Donovan(you know who you are) but answer me this do you remember the end of the Rhodes era?Kotite? Marion Campbell?Compare that with the Andy years.Championship games and a Superbowl appearance.
I agree with you Gary we need to take talent evaluation and the like out of Andy's hands. There are far too many guys on the roster
that make me scratch my head.More to the point roster spots that could be filled by better players.
I would like to see in  the off season for the Powers that be to bring an outside party to review and go over the whole organization with
an objective eye. Make a list of changes and problems and then hand them over to a new G.M.
not Tom Heckert not Andy. Also we need to bring in some better talent on both sides of the ball before we say the system is broken. At the very least bring in players to play a role that understand what that role is and are good at it.
Andy and Donovan are not going to change who they are but I do think some of the fanbase needs to think hard about what life was like before them and what it could be like without them.
Thanks Gary

From Donna, Hey G – LOVE your site and opinions on the the state of the birds – a must read for any fan.  As many of your readers have expressed, there is a large majority of fans who want to give DMac the necessary time to heal from his ACL and we are very upset at the constant talk of him being traded. Unacceptable! I think we owe him at least another year of recovery and the time to get back to the elite quarterback that he has always been for us. So, I am starting a petition to KEEP DONOVAN!!! I know in the big picture in won't make a difference, but I want Donovan, as well as the "heads", to know that the fans (who by the way help to pay their salaries)have an opinion and we need to be heard!

If you could post the link I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your terrific insights and keep up the great work!!  Regards,
