Reid And McNabb – Two Peas In A Pod

Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb have the same problems in their personalities.  They submit to the people who are in authority over them.  They don't buck authority.  Each of them will put tremendous pressure on themselves rather than make demands.

They allow people with stronger personalities to have their way rather than fight.  For years Reid should have been fighting with Joe Banner to pay the kind of people who would have helped him go to the next level.  Andy obviously wasn't fighting for players who he knew they needed.  You can see this with the negotiations with much needed halfback Brian Westbrook.  After the Super Bowl year, when the team's offense was unstoppable, they were going to let Westbrook walk.  The problems of Terrell Owens forced their hand and they had to hang onto BWest. 

Any coach who had seen how the presence of McNabb, Owens and Westbrook had carried them to the Super Bowl would have demanded that they keep each of those three players.  Banner was putting the screws to Westbrook, who had resigned himself to the fact that he was going to have to head elsewhere to get himself a good contract.  

Donovan McNabb has allowed the Eagles to send him out on the field year after year, other than the Owens years, without the necessary weapons to be a champion.  Rather demand the team go out and get big time talent he had put the pressure on himself to win despite a lack of talent.  Only one time during his time with the Eagles did he use his power position to bring in a top flight wide receiver.  It helped that the Birds were able to bring in Owens who had signed a lousy contract with the 49ers.  The Birds were willing to bring in Owens because they knew they could get him for a good price. 

Back to Andy Reid, he puts too much pressure on himself.  He should have seeked professional help for his kids and should have fought to sign great talent which was on the team.  Reid has pressured himself to design offensive strategies to get production out of his offense, even if there wasn't enough talent on the team.
