It was nice to see the Eagles back up Donovan McNabb to the media because anybody who's ever played a football game knows that the great thing about football is that it's such a team sport.
Teams win and teams lose. That doesn't make the greatest copy but teams are what it's all about. I sat and watched the Indianapolis Colts defense, which was maligned all last season, come through in the playoffs a year ago and carry Peyton Manning to a Super Bowl championship. The sports media wrote articles about Manning finally getting his Super Bowl and barely mentioned the defense which had gotten up off the mat and played an heroic role in a Super Bowl run.
I don't see the playoffs in the Eagles future but they can earn some respect for themselves by finding a way to go on a winning streak in the second half of the season. They can do a lot with hustle and tenacity. McNabb is not the only one who is fighting for his reputation. These guys need to realize that an NFL career goes by very fast. If you take games for granted, you can look and realize that your career is over.
I'll be watching on Sunday and looking for guys who have the character to play hard even though hopes of playing in the post season are fading fast. When you watch the game look for players who play like their career is on the line. These last eight games will give you a look inside the hearts of the Philadelphia Eagles.
