McNabb Has To Adjust His Game

Donovan McNabb will probably be the starter this week against the Giants.  He has to forget about looking downfield for big plays and decide to take the dink and dunk passing game and focus on being a system quarterback who drops and gets rid of the ball on short throws.

I think Eagles fans and Donovan McNabb were ruined by the time that Terrell Owens spent here in Philly.  Eagles fans and McNabb still have the same expectations, even though they no longer have a dominant receiver like Owens who can take any play to the house.  McNabb should drop in the pocket and throw the ball to the first open receiver, even if it means three and four yard completions.  He can't expect to run a high powered offense like they did in 2004.

Last year when Jeff Garcia was running the offense, they were barely scoring 20 points a game.  That's what this offense and its talent will bring you.  Eagles fans can still remember the past when the Eagles could put 30 plus on the board.  They didn't The fans should be happy with the team scoring 20 points or more and winning over 50% of their games.  They aren't world beaters and won't be world beaters any time soon.  They don't have that type fo talent.

Andy Reid's west coast offense is really a dink and dunk type of attack.  They should have weapons who are threats to take a short pass and go the distance with it.  Curtis did it one time this year, but the only other guy who is really that type of threat is Brian Westbrook.  The Eagles roster should be flooded with guys who can make plays when they get their hands on the football.

In the 2004 season Donovan McNabb played with two deep threats in Terrell Owens and Todd Pinkston.  He got into the habit of holding the ball and looking for big plays down the field.  He's got to stop doing that because he doesn't have those weapons any more.  The Eagles were a deep strike team with the ability to score from any place on the field.  They are no longer that type of football team, so McNabb has to go back to the dink and dunk days when the Birds went to NFC Championship games by putting together long drives, not turning the ball over, and playing good defense and special teams.
