The Eagles couldn't have started off any better today, as Donovan McNabb culminated a long drive for a touchdown with a toss to Brian Westbrook who went in the endzone standing up.
It was the first time the Eagles touched the football and McNabb looked quick avoiding the Giants pass rush before dumping the ball off to BWest. The first drive was an excellent display of execution by the Birds
The Eagles started out running a reverse to Brian Westbrook who had split out at wide receiver. They have included quite a bit of trickery in the game plan today. The offense has let a couple of golden opportunities go up in smoke. They moved the ball quite well on that first drive but haven't been able to keep a drive going since then.
The defense is playing well. The defensive line has been able to get pressure on Manning. Trent Cole got another sack, which gives him 12 for the season.
You've got to give Brian Dawkins credit for saving four points because Dawk made a great tackle on Reuben Droughns after he broke free from the line of scrimmage. Droughns was headed for what looked to be a sure touchdown when Dawkins took him down like a big time cowboy lassoing a steer. It was a signature play for Dawk who showed everybody that he's still a special football player.
The Eagles have got to get that offense going again. They've been stopped every time siince they scored that first TD. they've gotten their hands on the football. They have been 1-6 on third downs, which is awful. Penalties and mistakes haven't helped.
Eagles right defensive end Trent Cole has been the man so far for the Birds defense. He's displayed his ability to explode out of his stance and get so low, that it's impossible for the offensive tackle to deal with him. Cole has already registered his 12 and 13 sacks of the season.
Thankfully the Eagles did a good job of keeping the Giants out of the endzone because right now that's the only difference in the football game. New York has outplayed the Eagles other than during the drive for the first touchdown.
