From Wayne, This team has gotten old seemingly overnight, but the reason is obvious. They draft poorly and that is inarguable, their development of young talent is shameful, tell when a rookie has played or even gotten on the field.
Did anyone realize that their rounds 5-6-7 picks didn't make the team? The coaching is very suspect and the play calling awful. Remember, Marty Morningweg (sp) is the same guy who as Lions coach deferred the coin toss starting overtime. Andy Reid can't adjust on his feet during a game and our QB can't hit receivers in stride. Do we even want to ponder when Thomas and Runyan hang 'em up! I see no sign to feel optimistic about the future, so get ready fans.
Al from Atlanta, Gary, people keep saying that the eagles' front office has let down the team and fans by not getting a great receiver for McNabb. I don't get it. When such a receiver was available (Terrell Owens) they went out and got him. The guy had personal issues with McNabb, went nuts, and we all know the story. Randy Moss was on the trading block before the season. But c'mon, in light of the TO debacle was it reasonable to expect the front office to trade for a guy with his baggage? They didn't sign Stallworth but Curtis is a similar player. I don't think having Stallworth on the team would make much of a difference with Donovan playing so poorly. So the criticism seems really unfair. I'm an eagles fans living in Atlanta so maybe I have the distance to see it objectively.
From Jim, It's so sad that Brian Westbrook will probably retire without the Eagles making another significant playoff run. The Eagles' situation is somewhat analagous in theory anyway to what the NY Giants had up until this year. For offense they relied haevily on Tiki Barber, both as a runner and pass receiver. The Giants during his tenure did not have a great quarterback. But they did have very good receivers and a strong defense. The Eagles have or had a good defense. Adding capable linebackers would have made them even better. And they could have done more in getting/keeping receivers. Why couldn't they have exploited these weaknesses to go with Westbrook to get to the Super Bowl again. Conclusion… drafting and planning is sadly lacking with our Eagles!
