Double Standards In Sports And Coverage

I'm totally disgusted at the hipocrisy going on in professional sports and the media that covers them.  Some how two people can commit the same act yet one is labeled a hero and one is a labeled an evil villain.  I give you  Bill Belichick and Barry Bonds.

Both of them can be described as the best at their respective jobs.  Bonds has won seven MVP awards and is the career home run leader.   He has records that are beyond belief and was a great player who was headed to the Hall of Fame before he started using steroids.  He is a rotten individual who has no respect for the press and his teammates. He's a low-life if there ever was one.

Belichick is much the same.  He has won three Super Bowls as a head coach and another two as a defensive coordinator.  He's a brilliant football mind who takes preparation and getting psychological advantages to another level.  He's very good at his job but he is a proven and admitted cheater.

Bonds cheated MLB and all those who have gone before him.  He broke the most cherished record in all professional sports by cheating.  He's now under indictment for lying to a grand jury and may never play baseball again.  I won't lose any sleep if he doesn't, but he's no more a cheater than Belichick.

Belichick was head coach of an NFL football team and betrayed the trust of the league, his owner and the players who follow his leadership.  In addition to that, he betrayed the National Football League whose reputation could have plundered by him had the commissioner Roger Goodell not covered up his wrong doing by destroying all the evidence he turned in.

Notice that the sports media nation wide decided to let the Belichick scandal go and not call out the commissioner for destroying the evidence. If Major League Baseball had tried to cover up for Barry Bonds, the media would have went into a frenzy to get to the bottom of the information.  Why hasn't anybody been quizzing the Patriots personnel who were aware of the cheating?  Why hasn't the media snooped in to find out when the cheating started?  Did it happen at any of the Super Bowls that Belichick was involved in?

What about the damage this has done to youngsters nationwide?  How could one of these guys be okay and another is evil.  I think it's bad for a player to be cheating but it's just as bad and probably worse that a coach, a guy who is in charge, is caught cheating.  You can argue about which one is worse, but clearly neither Barry Bonds or Bill Belichick is an okay guy, I don't care what they accomplish.
