Double Standards In Sports Coverage

I grabbed an article which was in ProFootballTalk.com about how both Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh are out of control.  They are accused of yelling constantly at quarterback Carson Palmer.  Notice you don't read or hear anybody questioning Palmer's leadership.

This has been going on all season long but you don't see it focused on, and you don't ever hear Palmer being blamed for these two receivers being out of control.  This is the double standard you see in media coverage.  When this happened to McNabb, immediately his leadership skills were questioned.

Notice also in the report and the coverage of the problems, that head coach Marvin Lewis is the one whose leadership is questioned.  When problems happened between T.O. and McNabb, it was McNabb and not Andy Reid who should have done something about it.  Now that it's happening with the Bengals, it's Marvin Lewis who should do something about it.

I'm tired of hearing from the media that this guy is a good guy and that guy is a bad guy.  Most of the time, they don't really know.

Here's the ProFootballTalk.com report:

 CHAD, T.J. "OUT OF CONTROL"

A league source tells us that there is growing animosity in the Bengals locker room toward receivers Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Per the source, both are yelling "all the time" at quarterback Carson Palmer, but coach Marvin Lewis doesn't say or do anything about it.  Players are also upset that the two receivers are trying to "run the team."

I was viewing ESPN's Sports Reporters on Sunday morning and was shocked to find out that the reporters were justifying Bill Belichick being mad at Jets coach Eric Mangini for turning him in to the league for cheating.  These are the same sports reporters, who are all over players for being  good role models, yet they are giving Belichick a pass.

Bill Belichick maybe a great coach but he's no better a person than Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens or any other low life caught cheating.
