Eagles Sign Three Players

Despite the fact that the Birds season is over, the Nova Care Complex is still active.  Today the Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have signed WR Jamal Jones and DE Xzavie Jackson each to three-year contracts and DE A.J. Schable to a two-year contract.

Jones (5-11, 205) played in 12 regular season games (one start) and both playoff contests for New Orleans in 2006. He caught six passes for 108 yards and one touchdown, while posting nine tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on special teams. Jones was released by the Saints prior to the 2007 regular season. He was originally signed by St. Louis as a rookie free agent from North Carolina A&T in 2004 and spent time on Green Bay’s practice squad late that season. In 2005, he appeared in two games for the Packers after being allocated to Frankfurt of NFL Europe. A native of Hyattsville, MD, Jones was a high school teammate of Eagles RB Brian Westbrook at DeMatha Catholic High School.

Jackson (6-3, 287) was added to the Eagles practice squad on November 7, 2007. He was signed as a rookie free agent by Cincinnati following the 2007 draft, but was released on September 2. The Vacaville, CA, native played collegiately at Missouri, where he notched 8 sacks, 13.5 tackles for a loss, and one interception as a senior in 2006.

Schable (6-4, 273) was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Arizona in 2006. He appeared in 11 games for the Cardinals as a defensive end and fullback during his rookie campaign, making 12 special teams tackles. In 2007, Schable was released by the Cardinals on August 21. A native of Ida Grove, IA, he recorded 28 sacks during his collegiate career at South Dakota, including 19 as a senior in 2005.
