What Sheldon said about McNabb just proves the fact that the Eagles run their football team more like a business then a football team, especially at the player personnel level. The Eagles factor in too much the personality of the player and his "likable" factor.
Guys that they like will stay on the team over more talented players because they have developed a relationship with them. This is the NFL. You are judged soley by what you do on Sunday. Maybe in the real world a guy less talented will keep his job because of his people skills, but that should not pertain to the Eagles football players. This is not a popularity contest. There is a reason that football players get paid more than anyone in the organization and that is because they are expendable and valuable at the same time and it is a volatile relationship. Thus they are well compensated.
McNabb coming out and saying the Eagles need playmakers is not news, but somehow him stating it is news? That doesn't make sense to me especially since he is an established Pro Bowl QB in the league. He can say what needs to be said without having to hear it from his teammates. The media also can't chastise McNabb because they all write the same articles about the team. If Sheldon has a problem with McNabb's comments he should be a man and go to him himself. I'm pretty sure Sheldon would realize what McNabb meant by his comments and not feel any ill will. And anyways, if I was a WR on the Eagles I'd be very fearful for my job, because I am obviously not getting the job done. Greg Lewis should immediately be cut. Who cares if he could be slightly better than another marginal player, take the risk and try to bring in fresh young talent that actually might be a surprise.
Seems to me that the Eagles team is in turmoil and there is a struggle for leadership. I think it starts all the way at the top. Andy Reid needs to make players realize their jobs are but one bad year or game, depending on the player, from being lost. Players need to know where they stand on the team. The Eagles need to stop treating these guys like employees and more like football players that are moveable, tradeable pieces of a puzzle.
