It’s been known for quite some time that the Twins want/have to move Johan Santana. If you don’t follow baseball, he’s probably the best starting pitcher in baseball. He’ll be 29 in March, and he’s nothing short of a left-handed monster.
there are three major players involved in the trade talks: The Mets, Yankees and Red Sox. No surprise there. So I ask the Phillies: why no interest in Santana?
What would happen if they got Santana? With Brett Myers heading back to the starting rotation, you’d have Santana, Hamels, Myers, Kendrick and……who cares?! It wouldn’t matter. They’d have Santana. Mr. One Guaranteed Win Every Fifth Game.
The Twins want talented young players and this is probably why the Phillies don’t want to play ball. Some of their prized prospects would have to be involved. Don’t touch Cole, Rollins, Howard or Utley. Take anyone else you want. You pick the quantity, it doesn’t matter. Pillage the minor leagues, go ahead. With Santana, the Phils would be instant World Series contenders. Not National League contenders. World Series contenders.
Don’t forget there was a time when Brandon Duckworth was untouchable. Stop protecting all of your prized prospects and make the moves to win a championship. Go get Santana.
