The move by the Philadelphia Phillies to sign Pedro Feliz was brilliant. It's the reason General Manager Pat Gillick is employed by the Phillies. Last year's situation at third base with Wes Helms and Gregg Dobbs made me think about the Eagles WR's.
I like the fact that Gillick waited and showed patience in acquiring Feliz, so that he could lower what he would have to give up. I think this completes the best infield in Major League Baseball and makes the Phils a better baseball team.
Feliz is close to being a Gold Glove level third baseman, plus his numbers will improve as he leaves San Francisco and plays in the Philly band box. The guy had 20 home runs and 72 RBI's last year so you can expect that to shoot up considerably while playing here. That will make a potent lineup even better because the Phils got little if any production out of their third basemen in 2007.
The other area which will be affected is the left side of the infield. I'm sure the Phils pitching staff shouted when they got the news so they don't have to hold their breath when a ball is hit at third base.
