As I mentioned on my Blast Magazine blog the Redskins are in the market for a true high-end receiver. This is bad news for the Eagles because the Redskins are stupid.
Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post says that his sources tell him that the Redskins are making the acquisition of a true high-end wide receiver their biggest off-season priority. He also says that there is no way that Brandon Lloyd will never see his upcoming roster bonus, but I can find an Eskimo who has never seen a football to tell me that.
Article about Chad Johnson Acquisition In The Washington Post
As we all know, Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson is not happy in Cincinnati. He hasn’t demanded a trade outright, but he might as well. He wants to play for a winner and he’s convinced that won’t be the case with the Bengals. I got excited about this because I think the Eagles should float them a second-round draft pick in April’s draft in exchange for his services.
Now that I hear this about the Redskins, I am 99% sure the Eagles won’t get him. Dan Snyder may be a brilliant business man, but he is a downright awful football executive. And I don’t know if his guy Vinny Cerato has any juice, but if he does, then he stinks too.
The Eagles will simply never outbid this lightweight. If the Redskins see something they want, they will overpay to get it. There were strong rumors that they were willing to trade their #6 overall draft pick in 2007 to the Bears in exchange for Bears LB Lance Briggs. Brilliant. They signed Bruce Smith when he was 53 years old. They overpaid heavily for wide receiver Antwaan Randle El. They traded a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick to the 49ers in 2006 for Brandon Lloyd. No, I’m serious.
The Redskins will offer the farm to get Chad Johnson and that’s something the Eagles aren’t willing to do. Washington has continually proven that they see the NFL Draft as an annual off-season nuisance, and not a way to build your franchise. Conversely, the Eagles live for the Draft and hoard their picks like gold. In other words, you should probably shift your attention to Arizona and the $15 million man, Larry Fitzgerald.
