I'm not the only one who thought it was ridiculous of the NFL Commissioner, who has been coming down hard on the bad behavior of NFL players, decides to destroy the evidence Bill Belichick brought him. U.S. Senator Arlen Spector wants to find out why Goodell destroyed the evidence.
I've got letters saying that it wasn't against the law. Yes it wasn't against the law but what about the terrible example it sets for the kids who we hear about every time an athlete sets a bad example. Here you've got a coach, who has won three Super Bowls and is regarded as the best head coach in the NFL, deciding to video tape the signals of the opposing team despite being worned by the commissioner. Is the same commissioner who is nicknamed "Mr Law and Order".
I guess he believes in coming down everybody but people in positions of authority. How do you think the Patriots players really feel about the coach tarnishing their undefeated season by deciding to cheat? Isn't at least worthy of an investigation to see how long he's been cheating? Imagine if Andy Reid had been caught cheating like this. The Philadelphia media would never ever let it go.
What if Tom Coughlin, or Wade Phillips had been caught cheating? If being great gives you a free pass if you're caught cheating then make that everybody who is great.
This "looking the other way for Belichick", communicates to millions of youth nationwide, that it's okay to win at all cost. Cheating is okay if you're great at your job. I don't want to hear any more of that "being a good role model" because it only applies to the players.
