Justin Tuck Was The True MVP

The most difficult thing to do in the NFL is produce pass rush from the defensive tackle position and that's why defensive tackle Justin Tuck was the true MVP of Super Bowl XLII.  The Giants were playing against the high scoring offense in NFL history and they held them to 14 points.

He had two sacks and numerous pressures on Tom Brady and did what I expected and refused to let Brady get comfortable in the pocket.  The reason the New York defensive ends, Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora were able to put pressure on Brady was because he couldn't step up.  Tuck was the reason he couldn't step up.  This guy has grown into a BEAST.  He's about 6'5" and 280 pounds with tremendous quickness and tenacity.

A dominant is the most valuable thing that a defensive can have because if you can't block the defensive tackle, you can't run or throw the football.  I saw some special things in the earlier playoff games, when I looked closely at the New York playoff games.  Their defensive line is relentless.  They are great athletes and they play with passion.  I saw tremendous heart because they refused to shut it down.

Tuck and his buddies kept the Giants in the game when their offense was struggling for the 2nd and 3rd quarters.  Usually this is when the Patriots put points on the board and coast through the 4th quarter as they put up another victory, but the New York Giants defensive line refused to let them take over the game.  The Patriots offensive line which has three Pro Bowlers out of their five offensive linemen, have never had the butts kicked like it was during the Super Bowl.

I think Tuck had the greatest performance by a defensive tackle in the history of the Super Bowl.  If defensive tackle get six sacks in 16 games that is considered a good year.  If they're able to get two sacks plus consistently break throughs and get in the quarterback's face, it's a history-making performance.  If  Tuck had not been in Brady's face, you can believe he would have carved up the New York secondary.
