Maybe the Phillies are actually looking to add some upside to their rotation. According Jim Salisbury of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phightin’s are privately working out former Mets pitcher Kris Benson.
If you don’t remember Benson from his on-mound performances, he’s the one with the hot wife.
"We have interest," assistant general manager Ruben Amaro said last night. "We're talking to his agent."
The problem (one of them) is that Benson is coming off of a missed season due to shoulder surgery. According to the Inquirer, he is looking for a one-year, incentive-laden deal.
"Kris worked out for the Phillies, and initial reports are the Phillies were pleased," his agent Gregg Clifton said. "He'd love to continue discussions with them, and he'd love the chance to be part of that staff in '08. He really likes that team."
A former #1 overall draft pick, Benson has a career 4.34 ERA.
