As we saw in the Super Bowl, a great pass rush can make a mediocre secondary look great. When free agency starts on Friday, the Eagles have to be thinking about improving their pass rush. The focus should be at left end spot where they had Zero sacks in the last 8 games of the season.
Antwan Odom is a young defensive end for the Tennessee Titans who had 8 sacks last year. He was a second round draft pick in 2004 out of Alabama.
Here's a guy who had a breakout year in 2007 with the 8 sacks and will likely do even better in 2008. He's the kind of guy that Andy Reid and Joe Banner say they're looking for. He getting ready to explode and the Birds could get him signed to a long term deal before he really explodes.
They could put him at the left end spot and immediately improve their pass rush.
If the Birds go after a young defensive end, Odom is the guy to get. He's big, physical and plays both the run and pass equally as well. The negative about grabbing Odom is the fact that it means sitting last year's second round pick Victor Abiamiri.
Bobby McCray from the Jacksonville Jaguars is also an option but he's a little older than Odom. McCray had 10 sacks for the Jags in 2006 but fell off a bit to 5.5 in 2007. He would be a clear improvement at the left end spot.
Travis Laboy who also played for the Titans is an option but doesn't have the numbers of the other pass rushers. Laboy had 6 sacks in 2007. He would be the cheapest acquistion of the three.
