When it comes to dealing the youth in the National Football League I disagree with Herman Edwards my former teammate and current head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs . I don't think the NFL needs to institute a hair length rule even though I don't like all those dred locks.
I think it's a matter of choosing your battles. I would like the see the NFL stress more and more the importance of being responsible law-abiding individuals. If the players can do a better job of that, then I don't care how they wear their hair.
We know why the guys wear the long hair. They want to stand out and they want to attract ladies. Who's kidding who? I know the Somoan players do it out of tradition but I know some of those guys and they're doing it partly because of the ladies also.
These guys are young and I understand where they're coming from. The hair thing is no big deal but breaking the law is a big deal and that's what needs to be emphasized.
