The Eagles shouldn't make a WR their first pick.
First of all, this year's group of wide receivers doesn't have a clear cut stand out. You can get the same guy in the 2nd round that you can get in the first. There's not a lot of reason to worry about it because the Eagles aren't going to make a wideout their first pick.
What's the difference in Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed, Early Doucet, Devin Thomas and James Hardy? There's not a lot of difference that you can see right now but one or two of them might be keepers.

I've given my read on it. I would grab Hardy in the second round if he's there because you can be sure he's going to be able to do something in the red zone, since he is 6'7" and has caught 36 TD's in the last three years. If he doesn't catch as many TD passes as a professional, he'll still get pass interference penalties.
If I didn't get Hardy I would grab the fastest one of the group so he'd be able to give the Eagles a deep threat and thereby spread the field for the other Eagles receivers.
Trenton Times columnist Mark Eckel makes a good case for why the Philadelphia Eagles shouldn't make a wide receiver their first pick in the draft. He gives the history of the wide receivers who have been picked in the first round of the NFL Draft in recent history and few of them have made immediate impact.
