The second day of the NFL Draft with regards to the Philadelphia Eagles left me with an undeniable “we’ll see” feeling.
As irritated as some are, that’s really all you can do. All these draft pundits and experts that try to hand out grades just look foolish to me. No one has any idea whether any player can actually play. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be busts. Let’s take a gander at Day 2:
What I liked…
-Quintin Demps looks like he could be a player. He looks sturdy at 6’ 206 lbs. Again…who knows?
-Joe Mays is intriguing. I found some video of him and he’s a thick guy at 5’1” 245 lbs. He plays down hill and he could help out with special teams. The Eagles are paper thin at linebacker and desperately need some depth.
…and not so much
-That’s it? That’s all I liked?
-Bryan Smith might be able to play, but at DE? The most I’ve seen him listed is 231 lbs. I would love to know what the Eagles really plan to do with this guy, because as of now I see a 3rd-round pick spent on a guy who can’t be on the field for 1st or 2nd down.
-This Jack Ikegwuonu situation is something else, huh? Not familiar with it? Let’s discuss. He was facing burglary charges for stealing an Xbox in 2006 with his brother. But that’s ok, because he recently cut a plea deal. But wait, no he didn’t! His brother just rejected the deal so it is now off the table. He could be facing a jury trial on these charges. Also, his knee is currently shredded. In January, he blew is ACL, MCL and did damage to his knee cap. He won’t play in 2008. If the rumors are true that he was supposed to be a first- or second-round pick, then I guess this is value? I don’t know about this one, but I guess I’ll wait to pass judgement.
-I guess it’s tough to complain about a seventh rounder, but King Dunlap has “passionless” written all over him. Projected by some to be a second-round pick at the start of the season, he played like garbage and was eventually beaten out by a freshman. Sounds like a gamer.
That’s about what I think about Day 2, not much to discuss. It’s a bunch of guys I admittedly have never heard of. No way of knowing anything about how these guys project to the next level. So, I guess we sit and wait.
