Not much I can add right now on the Eagles that hasn’t already been discussed
and dissected in ten different directions by every media outlet in the 215 area code, so I’ll take a look around the NFL.
-ESPN’s John Clayton says that Packers WR Koren Robinson wasn’t surprised by his release from the Packers on Friday. When the Pack took Jordy Nelson in the second round in the Draft, he figured his days were numbered. A source tells Clayton that so far, Robinson hasn’t heard much as far as opportunities. Clayton thinks that the Raiders would be a good fit because of Robinson’s size and return abilities. Here’s another reason, John: The Raiders are stupid and would probably give him in $20 million in bonuses.
-Ravens veteran WR Mark Clayton likes what he has seen in rookie QB Joe Flacco so far.
“He can throw the ball,” Mason said. “The one he threw to Clayton I think was about 50 yards down the field in the air on target. The way he commanded the huddle with the team that was in there with him, I think that speaks volumes of him.”
-According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals feel like 2004 first-round draft pick (and colossal waste of space so far) Chris Perry is finally healthy and ready to contribute. Really?! In just his fifth year in the league? They may want to ease him in.
Anyway, the Enquirer says that he is the reason that the Bengals didn’t take a RB high in the Draft wasn’t because they wanted Shaun Alexander, but because they believe in Perry this year. Have fun with that.
-Let’s keep it in Cincy. Did anyone see that the Bengals signed free agent WR Maurice Purify from Nebraska? Another choir boy. He has already pleaded no contest to DUI, assault, disturbing the peace and hindering arrest after two separate incidents. Maybe he got it out of his system?
-Cowboys are in for trouble with safety Roy Williams. Eagles fans should love this. His teammate Greg Ellis was on Sirius Satellite Radio earlier this week saying that Williams has told him that he doesn’t think Wade Philips’ system fits him.
“He said, ‘Greg, this defense does not fit me. I don’t fit in well with this defense at all,’” Ellis said. “So when he told me that, I was like, ‘Well, man, it’s still new. Get used to it and it’ll probably be fine for you.’ Now maybe this year, if they decide to keep him for this season, Wade and them will kind of adjust some things to fit him better.”
There aren’t many systems that can hide a safety who can’t cover. Ellis went on to say that he thinks Williams is alienating his teammates by not spending any time with him. Apparently, Williams works out at Valley Ranch, but leaves around 7:30 a.m. At least he isn’t lazy.
-Bears RB Cedric Benson may have a case. It’s one thing for his friends to stick up for him, it’s another when a random person nearby says that the pepper spraying was “ludicrous, there was no point to it.” Stay tuned.
-I’ve been saying this for a while, but continue to keep an eye on Raiders RB Michael Bush. Bush slipped in the draft last year, but was supposedly a first-round pick before he broke his leg in the first game of the 2006 season at Louisville. It’s taken time to recover and warm up to the NFL, but he may become a factor at some point. Says the article:
“Bush ran with a smooth athleticism that belied his size at some 250 pounds, and looked natural catching a pass over the middle and pulling away from a linebacker. He glided through holes, and it will be fascinating in July to see what happens the first time a defender really attempts to lay him out.”
