Brian Dawkins wants to play past the upcoming season even if it means playing for somebody other than the Eagles.
Dawkins will turn 35 during the 2008 season but he made it clear to Mark Eckel of the NJ.com that he wants to play beyond the season. The problem with that to Eagles fans is that his contract with the Birds expires at the end of this season.
Would the Eagles give a contract to a 35 year old safety? You know it's against their policy to sign old players. Normally they don't resign a guy who has turned 30 years old.
Dawkins told Eckel that his body is telling him now after some good hard work that he can play past this upcoing season. He said that he felt he was through during the season a year ago but feels much better now. So good that he's sure he can play past 2008.
Dawkins is a fan favorite here in Philly. He's loved by Eagles fans near and wide but the questions will be powerful and numerous.
Will the Eagles sign him if he has a great year and looks like the old Dawkins and not the guy who looked like he was over the hill last season? Can he put together a great season like he has in the past?
