Dawkins said it again that he wants to continue playing after 2008.
He told NJ.com's Nick Fierro that his skills have not diminished.
"As long as the Lord blesses me the way that I play, as aggressively as I play without having to cheat coverages and play 30 yards deep because I can't get to the ball anymore, then I'm going to do it," Dawkins said.
When asked if he'll be upset if the Eagles don't offer him another contract.
"No," he replied. "That's a part of the business side. And hopefully with this year, with the ball I'm going to put down this year, they'll come back and say they want to get something done."
I was most excited by what Dawk said about the Eagles defense. He said that Jim Johnson will have the Birds jumping into more 3-4 blitz schemes on passing downs.
"That's something that you can expect to see a lot more of," Dawkins said. "… Just look at the guys we drafted (and signed as free agents). We brought in basically the same type individuals, speed guys that can get after the quarterback and can drop into coverage.
"Then, with the way Chris (Gocong) played that jack linebacker in that 3-4 set, I think you can expect to see a lot more of that."
The Eagles could be formidable on third downs if they take advantage of the versatility of their pass rushers. Having these guys pass rush and drop in pass coverage will keep quarterbacks guessing and out of sync.
Dawkins was in Allentown on Tuesday and he threw out the first pitch at the IronPigs baseball game.
