In an amazing move the Chicago Bears released their former number one draft pick RB Cedric Benson.
Benson was a number one pick for the Bears a few years ago but was arrested for the second time this off season, this past weekend and that did it for the Bears.
The move makes the Bears front office look like fools because they traded running back Thomas Jones to the Jets after he and Benson had led them to a Super Bowl appearance.
Jones ran harder and was more committed football player of the two running backs. I thought Jones was clearly the better of the two backs but the Bears kept Benson because he was their number one draft pick.
You want to talk about egg on their faces. Benson is a big soft running undisciplined football player. He will probably get some takers but I don't believe he's ever going to be the back that scouts thought he would be.
Remember they also let defensive coordinator Ron Rivera go after he had led the Bears defense to the number on spot in the NFL. I'm told that Rivera was too popular in Chicago because he had played for Buddy Ryan and the 1985 Super Bowl Championship team.
Their quarterback, Rex Grossman was terrible and of course they kept him. A blind man could have done a better job making these decisions than their front office.
