This is supposed to be a relatively quiet period
around the National Football League, but we’ve still got plenty to discuss. So here we go…
-I hope the Raiders kept the receipt when they bought Javon Walker. He was found unconscious Monday at 7:19 AM near an intersection in Las Vegas. He has a busted orbital (part of the skull around the eye) and apparently was robbed. Wow. Stay tuned on this one, being found unconscious on a Vegas street in the morning always has a bigger story behind it.
-I think when Shaun Alexander puts his cell phone to his ear he hears crickets chirping. I think he’s going to have to wait for a training camp injury, but you never know.
-You may remember Broncos WR Brandon Marshall tearing his right hand/arm up as he was horsing around with his brother and fell through an entertainment center. Well, he says he’s getting close to healthy, but that there is still something he can’t do.
“I can do everything with my right hand that I was doing before the accident but I’m still wiping my butt with my left hand,” Marshall said. “It’s not as strong. My right hand is not as strong.”
-In Tampa Bay, it doesn’t sound like QB Chris Simms will be at mandatory mini camp that starts today. He has said recently that there is just no mending fences with head coach Jon Gruden. I don’t think anyone has any idea what Chris Simms is at this point as a QB. Any time you hear that someone has to re-learn how to throw a football, that just isn’t good.
-Keeping it in Tampa, the St. Petersburg Times says that RB Earnest Graham will show up to the mandatory camps. Like he can afford not to? He makes next to nothing and has very little leverage in contract negotiations. Then again, do they really want to rely on Cadillac?
-The Houston Texans signed LB Rosevelt Colvin. He’ll be 31 when the season starts, but should still have something in the tank.
-Eagles general manager Tom Heckert will be on the new G.M. advisory committee according to Profootballtlak.com. The stated goals of the new committee will be to “protect and support the integrity of the game, expand the use of technology, focus on player development and scouting opportunities, and develop innovative ideas to improve the Pro Bowl, Scouting Combine, NFL Draft, and preseason.”
