I think the most revealing comments made by Donovan McNabb
were when he said the following about the 2004 team, in a recent Philly.com article written by Bob Brookover.
"We were a team that was right there, and we were right there consistently," he said. "Then when we brought in a guy like T.O., the attitudes kind of shifted. The defense had that extra confidence because we had somebody like T.O. On offense, we had that extra weapon and we knew we had something.
"This year, we're putting in pieces of the puzzle on defense. Offensively, we have an experienced bunch and the confidence is there, but it's still kind of wait-and-see."
These comments say it all about the McNabb and the Eagles. How valuable was the confidence that team had? I'm surprised that he would be so open to say it that clear.
They're hoping a healthy L.J. Smith; the addition of speed with Lorenzo Booker and DeSean Jackson; Kevin Curtis with a year under belt in the offense; more consistent play out of Reggie Brown will make up for not having a Terrell Owens type of receiver.
This team will try to make it happen but they were and still are in need of that top flight wide receiver. I think they're going to be a good team but I don't know just how good they're going to be because of the red zone.
I think they're going to experience some success in the red zone but I can't see them being very dominant when getting in scoring position because they don't have that big time threat at wide receiver.
