I'm troubled by this story.
A young New England Patriots defensive back, William Andrews was arrested for holding a powerful gun to the temple of his fiance's head.
They had gotten into an argument when she accused him of cheating on her. The one store is nothing to go crazy about but the amount of incidents that occur should alarm all of us.
I'm telling you now that something very bad is going to happen involving our sports world. The youngsters who are coming into the National Football League and into the National Basketball Association are the same youngsters I see when I go to the Youth Study Center in Philadelphia.
The Youth Study Center is the facility in Philadelphia where they house youngsters who have gotten in trouble with the law and are awaiting their day in court but have been denied their freedom before that day.
Many have no understanding of the gravity of their crimes. I've been told been hundreds of them about hearing bullets whiz past their head.
Most of them have no father in their life and quite a few don't have a mother as well. They have grown up in an environment where might equals right. The use of violence via guns, physical threats or whatever is needed is looked on as a part of life.
If you knew some of the people who are very close to these athletes, you would cringe. I'm talking about family members and best friends.
I hate to say it again but it's headed some where bad and I don't see any end in sight.
