Not much going on the league right now, but thanks to morons like Willie Andrews up in New England,
there is always something to discuss. Let’s peek around the NFL:
-Speaking of Willie Andrews…cut. NFL teams tend to frown upon players who get arrested repeatedly in the offseason, especially when girlfriends and illegal guns are involved.
-I thought this quote from Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers in an upcoming SI issue was curious:
“I don’t feel I need to sell myself to the fans,” Rodgers said. “They need to get on board now or keep their mouths shut.”
Hey Aaron, you sound like an idiot. Fans don’t like to be talked down to or scolded by multi-million dollar athletes and celebrities. They are the ones who buy your jerseys and they have a right to an opinion whether it’s right or wrong. Just play well and stop staying stupid stuff like this and you’ll be fine.
-Community leader and all-around good guy, Chris Henry, had a mistrial declared by a judge in his case involving beating up an 18-year old and throwing a beer bottle through his car window. It was a hung jury and probably the best news Henry has had in a long time.
–Brad Biggs of The Sporting News says that Bears CB Ricky Manning, Jr. , a fan favorite in Philadelphia, will begin training camp on the trading block. The guy who single-handedly owned the Eagles in the 2003 NFC Championship game against Carolina has a big contract and is buried on the depth chart. Good luck getting anything in return.
–Profootballtalk’s Mike Florio, who also writes for TheSportingNews.com, lists 10 coaches who are on the hot seat in 2008. Guess who is #8? Yep, he says Andy Reid is on the hot seat. Apparently, Mr. Florio doesn’t know Jeff Lurie and Joe Banner. Just because the fans have Reid with one foot out the door, doesn’t mean anything with regards to whether or not he would actually get fired. Have to strongly disagree with Florio on this one.
-How about the reported interest of the Tampa Bay Bucs in former Detroit RB Kevin Jones? Cadillac Williams will most likely start the year on the PUP list and won’t be available until Week 7 at the earliest. Even still, who knows what you’ll even get from him at that point?
Tampa Bay also has Warrick Dunn and Michael Bennett on the roster to muddy things up for fantasy footballers. Oh, and they just gave a three-year $10.5 million deal to Earnest Graham, who had 10 TD’s in 10 games last year. This is a fantasy nightmare. Avoid at all costs unless someone becomes the clear-cut guy. I don’t see it happening.
