Owner Daniel Snyder has deep pockets, but his management style has hurt the football team. They just don’t have stability, which is key to any organization. The Redskins seem to change their offense and defense every year.
I do like the fact that new head coach Jim Zorn is a former NFL quarterback and quarterbacks coach, which should help the play of signal-caller Jason Campbell. ?Still, the young quarterback can’t feel good about these constant changes around him.
That being said, I’m still impressed by the Skins and their personnel. They’ve got outstanding running backs in Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts. They have a bevy of talented receivers with Santana Moss and Antwaan Randle El, along with top rookies Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and Fred Davis.
Still, the key will be Zorn’s ability to teach Campbell and this group his system, which is a form of the West Coast offense. He must then get them all playing on the same page in a little over two months.
Personally, I think Zorn’s job is an impossible one, and that’s why I expect the Redskins’ offense to struggle.
I don’t think the Skins will ever win until Snyder turns the team over to a top-notch football guy and steps down. He doesn’t have the expertise or the patience to build a quality football team.
There are three weeks before training camp and much can change between now and the beginning of the season, but I think the Eagles can make the playoffs, despite their tough competition in the division.
