Jeremy Shockey has been traded to the New Orleans Saints.
It’s finally happened. Jeremy Shockey has finally been shipped off. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the Giants and Saints have agreed on a deal that will send the loud-mouthed tight end to New Orleans .
The Giants will receive second- and fifth-round picks in exchange for Shockey’s services. This is essentially the deal that was on the table before the draft. Earlier reports also said that the Giants were asking for a second-round pick and young safety Roman Harper, but the Saints wouldn’t do it.
This is actually bad news for Eagles’ fans. Shockey was a distraction who, I believe, hurt Eli Manning’s progress as a quarterback. Go back and look at some of those awful interceptions and who he was trying to throw to at that time. It was usually Shockey. The two never got on the same page and his talents as a receiver and blocker just don’t outweigh his negative impact on the team.
Big moves for the NFC East today. Not for…you know, the Eagles (signing a draft pick isn’t a big move). Two teams in the division just got better. The Giants removed a cancerous wart and the Redskins added a proven rusher off the edge in Jason Taylor.
