I don't care how you frame it, if you look at what the other quarterbacks around the league are making then Donovan McNabb deserves a new contract.
If you look at the accomplishments of McNabb versus the rest of the quarterbacks in the league, he deserves a new deal. At the same time, the Eagles could look him in the eye and say, "You've got two years remaining on your contract and we'll talk to you in the next off-season."
If they do that they know they're not going to have a happy camper. They know they’re going to have controversy swirling around the team.
Signing McNabb to a new deal will eliminate distractions and be the best thing for the franchise.
Have you noticed that franchise quarterbacks get their way in the NFL?
The Eagles could give McNabb a new deal and open up more salary cap space for signing free agents this off season.
Many will say that McNabb shouldn't get a new deal because he hasn't led the team to a Super Bowl championship. I would argue that teams win championships and not just quarterbacks.
I thought McNabb played as well as any of the other quarterbacks in this year's playoffs.
He played great down the stretch of the season and he was outstanding in the playoffs without any running game to speak of. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league, top five or top seven, without a doubt.
I thought he played well enough in the NFC Championship game to win, if the defense had showed up. He led the team to 25 points, (27 or 30) if David Akers shows up and does his job. That should have been good enough to win.
I might be one of the few to say it but our defense hasn't performed well in most of those NFC Championship game losses (quiet as kept).
If you give the keys of the offense to Kevin Kolb, your chances of going to the playoffs and winning the big one are virtually nonexistent.
