Here are the players which Sports Illustrated, NationalFootballPost.com, ProFootball Weekly and DraftKing.com have the Eagles selecting with their two 1st round picks.
Here are the two players which Sports Illustrated has the Eagles selecting in the first round of their mock draft:
21. Philadelphia Eagles OT Jason Smith Baylor
The Eagles will be thrilled if Smith lingers this long, because given the age of offensive tackles Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas (who are both in line for free agency), a little youth at that position is imperative. Smith could be long gone by now, but he's definitely one of the four tackles who carries a first-round grade.
28. Philadelphia Eagles RB Knowshon Moreno
With a second first-round pick this year, isn't it time the Eagles gave themselves another legitimate option in the backfield to go with the over-used Brian Westbrook? Moreno is the second of the two first-round grade running backs in this draft, and he runs with great instincts and vision, often creating space where there isn't any.
G. Cobb – I don't like Moreno because he's not either big or very explosive. I don't see him make people miss, but he's not big enough to run people over. Moreno is a good back but he's also not a proven receiver.
Here are the two players which NationalFootballPost.com has the Eagles selecting in the first round of their mock draft:
21. Philadelphia Eagles: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
The Eagles could go in a number of directions here, and history says a guy like OT William Beatty from Connecticut fits the bill. However, given the Eagles’ struggles at the tight end position this season, a dual blocking/receiving threat like Pettigrew would go a long way to help the offense. He’s a natural receiver who knows how to work the middle. He’s also one of the most powerful blocking tight ends to come along in years and will be able to handle the edge one-on-one on the outside.
28. Philadelphia Eagles: William Beatty, OT, Connecticut
The Eagles went against their prior history with their first pick, selecting a tight end in the first round. But with their second pick, I expect Andy Reid to go back to his old ways and add a talented offensive lineman to help with the eventual replacement of current starting tackles Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan.
G. Cobb – I think Pettigrew would fit in well with the Eagles. He's a big physical guy who can block and they need that desperately on short yardage and goalline. This kid isn't that fast but he's got good hands and is willing to take a hit and make the catch. He's 6'6" which will make him a threat in the endzone.
Here are the two players which ProFootballWeekly.com has the Eagles selecting in the first round of their mock draft:
21. Philadelphia Eagles
OT Eben Britton* / Arizona
With Tra Thomas deteriorating fast and Jon Runyan hitting free agency, Andy Reid must address the OT position early. With two first-round picks this year, the Eagles are a prime player to package the picks to land their guy. All indications are that Winston Justice is a bust, but he could be given a chance on the left side, while Britton could plug the hole on the right. The demand for tackles could force Britton to be drafted sooner than his talent warrants similar to Sam Baker last year.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (from Carolina)
CB Alphonso Smith / Wake Forest
With Lito Sheppard likely on his way out, the Eagles could use a third cornerback. Smith’s diminutive size will scare some teams, but he could be very efficient in Jim Johnson’s defense the same way Antoine Winfield has been for Johnson protégé Leslie Frazier in the same scheme in Minnesota.
G. Cobb – I don't think the Eagles are going to draft a cornerback in the first round. Joselio Hanson is a free agent but he'll probably be back.
Here are the two players DraftKing.com has the Eagles selecting in the first round of their mock draft:
21. Philadelphia Eagles – Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
Both starting offensive tackles for the Eagles, Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas, are slated to be unrestricted free agents, and it's a distinct possibility that one (if not both) will be leaving the team.
Luckily for Philadelphia this is a very deep draft at offensive tackle. Smith has been a breakout talent for Baylor, with some (among a divided field) considering him to be the top senior offensive line prospect in the nation. This would be a great value pick for the Eagles.
28. Philadelphia Eagles (from Panthers) – Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma State
One year ago the Eagles used their franchise tag to retain tight end L.J. Smith. It seems unlikely that the team would do that again, and short of Smith signing a long-term deal with Philly, the Eagles could be in the market for a tight end.
At this point Pettigrew looks like the best of the bunch with Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham going back to school for 2009. At 6'6" 260 Pettigrew has great size and appears to have the ability to block on an NFL quality level. He is also a receiving threat, and adding him to the mix in Philly would be quite intriguing.
G. Cobb – You know how I feel about Pettigrew but I don't know these tackles very well yet.
