Eagles In Love With Jason Smith

ESPN.com says the Eagles are in love with Baylor's 6'5" 300 pound offensive tackle Jason Smith. His nickname is "J Smooth".

He was formerly a tight end which says a lot for his athleticism.  He's 300 pounds but has the frame and height to put on more weight.

He hasn't been playing the tackle position that long and has a tremendous upside.

He's played both the right side and the left side and has been clocked in a 5.06 in the forty yard dash.

Smith is regarded as an outstanding pass blocker but he's got to be a good run blocker as well because the team ran for nearly 3000 yards during the season.

The big guy has had knee problems which caused him to miss some games.   The extent of thsoe injuries and the condition of his knees aren't known right now but they will be known quite well by the end of the week.

The young man has a 4.0 grade point average while getting a degree in education a year ago.  He has been a volunteer throughout his home town of Dallas, helping kids by giving motivational speeches to them.

Smith appears to be on a mission.  "I heard a guy say three years ago that you can't get drafted high out of Baylor," Smith said. "My thing was, 'Watch me.' "

From USAToday.com:

7. Jason Smith, OT, Baylor, 6-5, 300, 5.14, 1: Smith converted from tight end to tackle in 2006, and although he has shown plenty of talent, he still has a ways to go to play to his potential. He missed time in 2007 with a knee injury, seemed fine in 2008 and finished his career with 39 starts, playing 24 at left tackle, seven at right tackle and eight at tight end. According to coaching staff stats, he allowed three quarterback pressures and 4½ sacks as a left tackle. Smith has excellent speed and knows how to use it pulling, trapping and leading the way on screens.

Smith will be gone well before the Eagles pick at 21st in the first round, so they'll have to really love this kid to give up both first round picks to get him.
