The running backs ran their forty yard dashes today in Indy and let the Eagles know that this draft is deep in good running backs.
Knowshon Moreno of Georgia ran a 4.59 forty which was somewhat disappointing but he isn’t known for his speed. He makes people miss and runs tough. He made some great catches coming out of the backfield. I know the big fella enjoyed seeing that.
Cedric Peerman of Virginia ran the best time of the running backs, 4.45.
Donald Brown of UConn who is a good sized all around back who can both run the ball and catch it out of the backfield, ran a 4.51 forty yard dash.
Big and physical Beanie Wells of Ohio State ran a 4.59. Glenn Coffie of Alabama ran a 4.58.
There were an abundance of backs who were able to run a good forty time and catch the ball out of the backfield. Expect the Eagles to get a running back in the 3rd, 4th or 5th round.
They probably won’t get one early because they don’t believe in spending too much money at the running back position and they’re already paying Brian Westbrook $5 million dollars a year. I think he will have a young understudy on the team this season.
The wide receivers were flying today at the NFL scouting combine. Darius Heyward-Bey of Maryland had the best time of the day when he ran a 4.30 in the forty. Deon Butler of Penn State ran a 4.38. Percy Harvin of Florida who will likely be used like Reggie Bush on the next level, ran a 4.41.
Jerry Maclin who wil go in the first round ran a 4.40 but hyperextended his knee.
Michael Crabtree who will be the first wide receiver drafted, didn't run the forty because a stress fracture in his foot. He will run a forty at his Pro Day in March before having surgery to have a pin put into his foot.
The guy I had my eyes on for the Eagles was Rutgers’ big physical receiver Kenny Britt who ran a 4.51. I looked a video of Britt and saw him knock the head off of a number of safeties and linebackers. This guy is tough and will be a force in the red zone because he’s about 6’3” and will go up and get the football.
Pat White was the quarterback who helped himself the most at the workouts today. He ran a 4.55 and threw the ball as well as any of the other quarterbacks today. They still say that teams are going to switch him to wide receiver.
Mark Sanchez had a good workout and didn’t hurt himself as a sure first round pick. He showed his accuracy and decent arm strength. He ran a 4.89.
Of course Matthew Stafford ran a 4.81 forty but didn’t throw the football. He'll throw the ball at his Pro Day in March.
