The players who have tried to make demands of Joe Banner and the Eagles front office are all missing, every one of them.
I don't think Donovan McNabb and his advisors realize that you don't really want to start a war with Eagles president Joe Banner and the team's front office. You can get into things with Andy Reid and stay around but my advice is to leave Banner and the people upstairs alone.
Reid is willing to do a lot of handholding and babysitting but Banner won't do that. I don't think that it's smart for McNabb to risk that the team's front office won't call his bluff.
According to ESPN, McNabb has had a meeting with the Eagles but they haven't started talking about a new contract as of yet. A source told ESPN's Michael Smith that McNabb is going to wait to talk about his contract until he can see what the Eagles are willing to do to upgrade the roster.
The truth of the matter is that McNabb probably hasn't heard what he wanted to hear from the Eagles about the contract. It's not an urgent matter with the Eagles but it is urgent to McNabb.
Now the Eagles quarterback is trying to give the impression that he's going to wait and see what the Eagles are going to do to improve the roster.
It just so happens that the Eagles can't do much on the free agent market because there isn't much out there. If he had made some demands a year or two ago, it could have made a difference but I don't know how much of a difference it will make now.
What would satisfy McNabb? T.J., Tony Gonzalez or two new offensive tackles, what will it take. As long as he's not clear about what exactly it will take, he will be able to save face if the Eagles don't do anything new with his contract.
Also remember that the Eagles front office is going to do whatever they want to do. They are going to refuse to be bullied.
Remember, Terrell Owens was a pain in the neck to Reid and the head coach put up with it for awhile then he eventually suspended him.
Once Owens tried to bully Banner about his contract, he was out in front of his home in Moorestown, New Jersey reading apologies with his agent, Drew Roesenhaus.
Notice how quietly Rosenhaus complains nowadays when he speaks of the Eagles.
You can't bully Banner and the Eagles front office.
